11. Solve the problems; model the situation with a drawing.

a. To reach the top of a house, a ladder is placed with an inclination angle with respect to the floor of 48°
at a distance of 5m from the base of the house on the horizontal. Calculate the height of the house.

b. By the afternoon a lamppost projects a 23m shadow on the floor. If the height of the pole is 8m,
calculate the angle of elevation of the sun.

c. Gloria is a botany student that wants to know the height of a tree to the top, for which she measures a
distance of 17m on the floor horizontally from the base of the tree to it, and discovers that the angle of

elevation up to the tree, measured by a hypsometer is 68.5°. Determine the height of the tree if Gloria
measures 1.68m up to the height of her eyes.

d. From the top of a rocky formation that measures 130m, an eagle observes a hare with a depression
angle of 55°. Calculate the distance the eagle must fly in straight line to catch the hare.

e. From the terrace of a building, an engineer measures the elevation angle of 48° to the roof of another
higher building. It’s known that the street that separates them is 25m wide and the height of the
building where he is is 35m. Calculate the height of the higher building. (Consider that the
measurement was made from the level of roof)
