Becky Thorns draws inspiration

for her work f rom the wider joys
of life to the smaller things of
everyday. Further ideas come
f rom living in many beautiful
parts of the United Kingdom,
and her travels far and wide.
“Working digitally as well as in
watercolor,” she says, “allows
me the privilege of being able to
work wherever I f ind myself, be in
a nook in the house or on a flight
to Peru.” She lives in southern
England with her husband and
fellow adventurer, Josh. “One of 6 73 37 DAY H I K E I
the things we both love in life
is the animals we come across
on our journeys;” Becky muses,
“especially the way that they can
very easily become characters
and portray a story through their
environment and faces. I always
feel drawn to including animals
in my work, and have a particular
fondness for alpacas!”

Chris Paschke is an
internationally accomplished
artist and calligrapher.
Her fascination with both

Eastern and Western letterforms
has been a lifelong study. Chris
has studied with European master D
calligraphers in Belgium, Germany,
Austria, and Russia, and after an
inspiring visit to China, her work
took on a strong Asian influence.
For the past forty years, Chris

has been strongly influenced by
traditional Chinese masters and
Japanese Sumi-e painting,
crossed with the edgy abstract
expressionism of Kline, Pollock,
Rothko, Gottlieb, Motherwell
and Jasper Johns.
Chris attended San Jose State

University and Humboldt State
University, receiving a BFA
Creative Arts and Design, Magna
Cum Laude. She is a member of
the Friends of Calligraphy, San
Francisco, CA; Sumi Society of
America; International Encaustic
Association; and Fine Art Trade
Guild (UK). She keeps actively
involved in all aspects of art
and its place in the world.

in me, kind of like butterflies in
my stomach and my mouth
watering at the same time –
it’s really nice,” says botanical
photographer Elise Catterall.
“I create large scale floral
artworks in a home studio,
shooting the flowers on a blank
background so there is nothing
to detract f rom their raw beauty.”
She came to her floral subjects
via her career in naturopathy
while writing a book about
flowering herbal medicines.
Through her business

in capturing wedding bouquets
straight after the wedding to
create beautiful wall art the
couple can enjoy forever. She
lives in Sydney, Australia with

workshops nationwide, she
focuses on helping people f ind
a personal and playful approach
to making art. Jane started
her artistic career as a potter,
gradually transitioning into

and collage as her media. For

JEANETTE VERTENTES
“I love to create images that have

life and movement using color
and texture.”
Jeanette Vertentes is a
contemporary painter known
for her large-scale colorful
paintings. Living in North
Stonington, CT, close to the sea,
where she is surrounded by her
dogs and gardens, her vivid
creations pay homage to the
place she calls home.
In each painting you can see

Jeanette’s distinctive style and
vibrant spirit. Picturesque
landscapes, beautiful seascapes,
floral still lives, animals and farm
f ields are all brought to life with
contrasting and harmonious
colors, movement and bold
compositions.
As a child Jeanette trained

under the painter John Lutes.
“From a young age I believed
that you can create anything
once you see it in your mind.”
She earned a Bachelor of Fine
Art with a concentration in
painting f rom Rhode Island
College where she studied
color theory and composition.
Today you will f ind Jeanette

either painting in her studio
or at the country’s f inest art
shows throughout the spring
and summer, teaching through-
out the winter and working on
numerous commissions for a
worldwide audience.

Courtney Prahl is a mixed

media collage artist who uses
color and layers throughout
her work. Juxtaposing old and
new materials is part of her
signature style, and she loves
searching for vintage paper
treasures at tag sales and flea
markets to incorporate into her
art. Courtney teaches art to
children of all ages at an art
center and community college,
and is the co-founder of a local
art charity “Lend a Hand” in
her hometown. She resides in
Maryland with her husband
and two sons.

Between her rural Michigan

roots and a childhood f illed with
cross-country camping trips,
Laura is at home in nature.
Though her primary medium
is photography, Laura has also
discovered a love for watercolors
and gouache, giving her another
way to express the beauty she
sees in the world around her.
Currently living and working in
Vermont, Laura continues to
paint, take pictures, and enjoy
long walks in the woods with
her husband and dog.

Katrina Pete’s artwork is

a collection of inspired
mementoes f rom her garden,
woodland walks, and outdoor
adventures with her family.
“I’m intrigued by the change in
light each season, and the way it
brings about entirely new color
palettes throughout the year.”
Painting since childhood,

Katrina loves incorporating
natural elements and light into
her watercolor paintings. Her
beautiful collections are
created with a loose technique
that allows the paint to do
what it does best, flow and
bloom and fade into other
colors on the page.
During her college years,

Katrina took numerous
painting and drawing courses
while studying in the medical
f ield. “Although I worked as a
Medical Lab Scientist, I always
painted and grew as an artist in
my f ree time.” Today, Katrina is
happily working as an artist and
illustrator, alongside her husband
and growing family in Minnesota.

Danhui Nai was born in

mainland China and raised in
an artistic household with her
sculptor father and painter
mother. Her natural passion
for art was guided through
classical training which she
applies in her California studio
to create beautiful, on-trend
artwork in a variety of media.
She studied interior design
later in Paris and New York
City. She worked in the textile
industry in Manhattan, where
she continued her studies and
artistic development.
