-Royal-
“Royal” is a word that makes you feel the magnificence of the style. Since I became interested in fashion, I was
impressed by epaulettes that have graced the shoulders on military jackets and capes. I wished to be able to sew these
designs in the distinctive shape I wanted.
I told myself, since I am a designer, why don't I make the same idea but in a new way? The idea of a cape with
removable, embellished shoulders came to my mind, and I set to designing it right away. I used front and back post
double crochet stitches to create the 3D leaf shape. This added extra texture and interest to the cape. You can wear it in
winter over a beautiful dress for attending formal occasions, or wear it with a blouse with jeans for just hanging out
with friends.
We appreciate you downloading our pattern! We pour tons of time and love into each one and hope you enjoy it.

more complicated. Skills/concepts include basic increases and decreases,
using bobbles and color changes, and picking up stitches for the change from
collar to body.

Ssc (stacked single crochet): Sc into the indicated stitch; ch 1. Locate the sc you just made to begin this stitch.
Sc into this sc by entering from right to left through the two legs that are facing you, NOT by working through
the top two loops as you would normally do. This will be similar in height and appearance to a dc and will
count as a dc throughout the pattern. Video: https://youtu.be/fDjdcQFkBHA
Sfpsc (stacked front post single crochet): Make a Ssc as described above, but instead of working into the
indicated stitch, work from front to back to front around the post. Video: https://youtu.be/BqZHR6im5RQ
Sbpsc (stacked back post single crochet): Make a Ssc as described above, but instead of working into the
indicated stitch, work from back to front to back around the post. Video: https://youtu.be/BqZHR6im5RQ
Sfpsc-dec (stacked front post single crochet decrease in 2 stitches): Begin by making the Sfpsc as above, but
stop before the final ‘yo pull through (2 loops on hook). Next, fpdc around next st, pulling through all three
loops on final ‘yo pull through’. Video: https://youtu.be/BqZHR6im5RQ
Reverse Single Crochet - Insert your hook into the indicated stitch; yo and pull up a loop, keeping both loops
slightly loose. Now rotate your hook 360° by turning the tip towards you and downward, then slightly right to
finally sweep around the back of the two stitches currently on the hook. You have now twisted the stitches,
and your hook should be back to the usual position. Yo and pull through both loops. Video link: https://

standard method would result in a reverse single crochet border on the inside of the shawl.)

If you choose to have the epaulets removable as was done in the sample, place them as described
above, but don’t sew. Instead, sew toggle clasps to the inside of shawl and underside of each

FINISHING
Weave in remaining yarn ends. Wet blocking to finished dimensions is recommended. The yarn
stretches more easily after soaking, allowing for more aggressive blocking. This will open up the
stitches, keep the fabric light, and expand the size of the piece. Trim all ends. An optional frog clasp
(not shown) can be attached at color, if desired.
