Did You Know?
Learn something new and talk about it.

• Which floor can you find the lobby and reception area in
when you are in a hotel in the United States?

• How are the building and hotel floors numbered in your
country?

• Why is it important to know the floor numbering system in a

hotel?
In different countries, floors/stories are numbered
differently. In the United States, the first floor is the
ground floor, and as you go up one level you reach
the second floor.

But in other countries, the ground floor is called the

zero floor and the first floor is the one you go to after
that. So, it’s good to know which system the hotel
you are staying at uses.
