School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) on GSIS Claims and Benefits
Rationale Created by Commonwealth Act No. 186 and Republic Act No. 8291
(GSIS Act of 1997), GSIS is a social insurance institution that provides a
defined benefit scheme under the law. It insures its members against the
occurrence of certain contingencies in exchange for their monthly premium
contributions.

GSIS members are entitled to an array of social security benefits, such as

life insurance benefits, separation or retirement benefits, and disability benefits.
GSIS is also the administrator of the General Insurance Fund by virtue of RA
656 (Property Insurance Law). It provides insurance coverage to government
assets and properties that have government insurable interests.

The principal benefit package of the GSIS consists of compulsory and

optional life insurance, retirement, separation, and Employee’s Compensation
(EC) benefits.
Objectives The goal of this session is to help members understand their claims and benefits
and refresh their knowledge about the following regarding GSIS:

 Separation
 Unemployment
 Disability
 Survivorship
 Funeral
 Employees compensation

Requirements

Narrative Report In order to keep abreast with updates on the Benefits of GSIS Members,
 Samal National High School conducted a SLAC on GSIS Claims and Benefits
on August 15, 2022 at the Chemistry Laboratory of Samal NHS-Main (JHS) for
all teaching and non-teaching personnel at 1:00 in the afternoon.

The session started with a prayer led by Mrs. Ma. Teresa M. Bugay,
Teacher II, and was followed by an AVP of a patriotic song. Everyone was
welcomed by the emcee, Mrs. Arleen A. Garces, Master Teacher I. The Roll
call was facilitated by Mrs. Juliana S. Santos, Teacher III, and was followed by
opening remarks from Mrs. Evangeline A. Pelaez, Teacher III. A message was
also imparted by the School Principal II, Mrs. Mercelita D. Diwa. The main
topic which was about GSIS Claims and Benefits was discussed by the resource
speaker, Mrs. Jennifer P. Manalad, Staff Officer III from GSIS Bataan.

After the discussion, an open forum was conducted and teachers were
eager to ask important questions from the session. A certificate of recognition
was then awarded to the speaker by Mrs. Evelyn T. Canare, Head Teacher III.
The event was culminated by a closing remark from Mr. Jonathan P. Tabbun,
The Brigada Eskwela Coordinator. The session ended through a commitment
that everything about the topic was understood.
