Title : Building Healthy Habits: Promoting Hygiene and Cleanliness Among Elementary Students

General Objectives : After 1 hour and 30 minutes of interactive discussion, the participants will be able to understand and recognize the importance of proper hygiene, and
implement the appropriate hand, teeth, hair, and nail and body hygiene.

Teeth
- 20 primary/temporary/milk teeth
- 32 permanent teeth
Parts of a Tooth
Crown – it is the part that can be seen and not covered
by the gums.
Enamel – hard and shiny that covers the crown. It
works as a barrier.
Dentin – hard and makes up the largest part of the
tooth. It protects the innermost parts.
Pulp – innermost part where nerve endings and blood
vessels are found.

Tooth Decay
- It develops over time that is due to the loss of tooth
substance (enamel and dentin) caused by acid
production that resulted from the bacterial metabolism
of sugar (WHO)
- Drinking and eating sugary foods increases tooth decay.
- The most common oral health disease in the Philippines
(87.4% Filipinos suffers from this) (DOH)
- Most widespread noncommunicable disease worldwide
(WHO)
- Children and adolescents are most at risk.
Proper brushing
1. Brush the teeth at least twice a day (morning after breakfast
and after dinner/before bedtime)
2. Squeeze enough amount of toothpaste from the tube. Check
the label for the correct fluoride content.

Dos
1. Take a bath daily.
When taking a bath:
a. Wash hair with shampoo.
b. Wash face with a soap, gently massaged with the
fingers or a clean piece of cloth.
c. Wash with soap then pour water over arms, legs,
and all over the body. Make sure to wash adequately
the armpits, groin, and also feet and dry thoroughly.
Don'ts
1. Do not eat too much strong smelling.
2. Do not eat spicy foods because they can cause
sweating.
