Baybay City Leyte
Course/Degree: Bachelor of Secondary
Education Major in MAPEH
Master’s Degree: Masters in Education
Major in Physical Education at Visayas
State University, Baybay City Leyte.
Current Career: Faculty member at
Northwest Samar State University
College of Education teaching Physical
Education and one of the coaches of
Kinetic Dance Company of North West
Samar State University.
He was a former member of Visayas
State University dancesport team, and also a former member of VSU folkloric dance
troupe he is a dance enthusiast and a choreographer. He was once a swimmer athlete and
currently handling the swimming varsity team of NWSSU.

Q1. Which motor control theories you find most relevant to your field of expertise?
“As a dance teacher teaching in NWSSU particularly here in the college of education personally
these motor control theories are very important and at the same time relevant to my field of
expertise as a dance teacher, but to choose only one I think, merely because this is the most
essential and at the same time fundamental motor control theory is what you call the system
theory. In system theory, it is the ability on how you’re going to use or to know and understand
the function of different system of our body. Now in dance we know that apart from using our
body us our medium so we also use our CNS and this is the most important system of our body
because if we don’t have these, then we cannot function in general. It’s mostly relevant because
in order for you to teach dance, first and foremost is you have to get first the necessary
information when you’re going to teach dance and apart from that if you’re going to teach
particular dance your dancer should also get this information and eventually would transfer in
particularly in their CNS in order to encode and decode this information. Now if they already got
the information then that is the time, they are going to utilize their CNS by understanding
knowing the different dance step, counting and etc and with that they are going to execute the
learned information. And by providing so, my dancers now would easily demonstrate because
using their system particularly the CNS is a way to deliver what the dance teacher teach or
teaches to their particular student. So, in my case as a dance teacher, I think first and foremost
the most relevant is the system theory. Apart from those also we know that in dancing we really
have to instill a good way of decision making, its very important and part of decision making
getting to understand their particular assignments, whatever the task given by their dance teacher
, part of those are like as dancers you need to be on time with the practices and to keep up with
the dance steps and including the counting and finally demonstrating the whole piece of the
dance, so that’s what make it most relevant in my field.

Q2. Can you share an example of how specific motor control theory has been use to
improve performance in your field?
“As a dance teacher we know that the nature of the dancers entails a lot of rehearsals practices
and it even takes your courage and your time and effort in dancing most definitely base on my
experience one way of improving… again going back to system theory whenever I gave them a
particular dance piece and teaching them dance steps, we were really go into details of what’s the
particular movement of the arms particular movement of the feet and the body in general. So in
my case as what I have observe, the improvement I have seen is that, when I’m teaching a dance
piece, since most of my dancers are mostly well verse already in the field of dance I don’t have
any hard time in teaching the dace steps that would really require going back again and again of
the dance steps but rather its already instill in my dancers that whenever I gave a dance steps
what they are going to do is easier for them to demonstrate and at the same time they quickly get
the gist of that particular dance steps and its easier for me to deliver the particular skills or dance
steps since most of my dancers are very well verse because they already instill based on the
system theory manufacturing of the particular dance step in their mind and at the same time
using their body as a means of expressing what they have in their mind and with that they can
easily get these dance steps because they are already matured and well verse in terms of the
decision making in executing or demonstrating a particular dance steps. I think that’s one of the
improvements that I have seen from my dancers whenever I teach dance.”
