CREDITS AND LEVEL
Academic Credit
• It is a unit by which the course work (Theory/Practical/Training) is
measured.
• Each course may be allotted credits in proportion to the time expected to be
devoted by the student for that course.
One Credit equals to…
• Theory - 15 learning hours / Sem
• Practical - 30 learning hours / Sem
• Studio/Workshop/ - 45 learning hours / Sem
• Seminars/Field based - One week (45 hours / Sem)
activities/Internship

Duration of a semester 13-15 weeks, resulting in the award of one credit.

• UG: B.A., B.Com., B.Sc. and all other non-AICTE professional UG degree
programs. (University campus and Autonomous colleges

• PG: M.A., M.Com., M.Sc. and all other non-AICTE professional PG degree
programs. (University campus and all colleges Autonomous engineering
colleges in the state of Maharashtra

What is Four Year Undergraduate Program (FYUG) ?
• 4 year UG program: In line with global trend
• Flexibility and Multidisciplinary exposure.
• Emphasis on experiential learning (Skill, Vocational etc.) with embedded
internship.
• Provision of Minor Degree.
• After successful completion of UG Honors, one will get admission directly to Second
Year of 2-year PG program.
• After successful completion of UG Honors with research, one can directly be
admitted to Ph.D. program.
• ME / ME (Multiple Exits / Multiple Entry or Re-entry or Lateral Entry) with Inter-
institutional mobility.

About 4th Year of FYUG
• It will not be allowed as a natural growth.

• Colleges with 3 year degree program will seek permission for extension
following the standard procedure.

• Colleges having PG in the same major, however, will be allowed to continue


without any additional procedure.

• In such case, the fourth year of UG and first year PG will have common syllabus.

• Similarly, colleges with approved PG and Ph.D. research centre will be allowed to
offer FYUG (Honors with research degree)

4-year UG Degree (Honours with Research)
▪ Research Methodology at VII Sem.
▪ To undertake research in Major at the final year UG level - 10 credits.
➢ Min. eligibility for students: CGPA -7.5 or 75% at three year degree.

▪ Eligible for admission to Ph.D. research with CGPA -7.5 or 75% at 4 year.

▪ Eligibility for Colleges/Departments :


➢ Already recognized for conducting the Ph.D. programme by the affiliating
University, or
➢ Fulfillment of necessary compliances - at least two permanent faculty
members, who are recognized as Ph.D. supervisors.

Distribution of Credits Across Four Years
• Total Credits = 160 - 176
• Credits/year = 40 - 44
• Credits/Sem = 20 - 22

Credits are distributed among six verticals as shows below.

1. Choice of Major (60-76 Credits)
• Department/Subject Specific Core or Major (DSC)

• The subject that represents the main focus of a degree.

• Degree will be awarded in that discipline.

• For Example for the award of Subject specific degree such as;
1) Four Year B.Sc. (Honors/Research) – Chemistry, DSC shall be core course of
Chemistry.
2) Four Year B.Sc. (Honors/Research) – Physics, DSC shall be core course of
Physics.

• Student can choose appropriate Major which fulfils his/her career aspirations from
Pool/Basket of Major subject displayed by the College.

• Students should secure min. of 50% of total credits through core courses in the
Major discipline in all Three/Four Years for the award of Major Degree.

What Can Be Included In Major?
• Mandatory Core Courses – Theory & Practical.
• Core Electives.
• Vocational and Skill based courses (VSC).
• Mandatory Internship/OJT/ Field Projects/ Apprenticeship/ Community
Engagement Projects.
• Research Project.

2. Choice of Minor (18 - 20 Credits)
• Unrelated to Major but something complements the Major.

• The minor subject may be from the different discipline of the same faculty or
from an altogether different faculty.

• If student earn sufficient credit (18-20) other than Major/Core, will qualify for a
Minor Degree in that discipline or in the chosen interdisciplinary area of study.

• To be completed in first three years of the program.

• Student can choose appropriate Minor subject that is unrelated to Major but
complements Major from the Pool/Basket of Minor subject displayed by the
College.

3. Open Electives (OE) (10-12 Credits)

• To be Chosen compulsorily from faculty other than that of Major.

• Meant to provide multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary exposure to students.

• For Example: Science faculty student must choose OE course offered by


Humanities or Commerce faculty.

• College will prepare the Basket of OE courses prepared by concern BoS.

• Student can choose appropriate OE-Courses across the


streams/discipline/faculties from the Pool/Basket of OE-Courses displayed by
the College.

4. Vocational Courses and Skills Enhancement - (12-16 credits)

• Aimed at providing Hands-on-training, Competencies, Proficiency and Skill to


the students.

• Vocational courses will include skills based on advanced laboratory practicals of


Major.

• To enhance the skills and employability of students.

• College will prepare basket of VSC/VC courses and display in prospectus and on
Web-site prepared by concern BoS.

5 (i) Indian Knowledge System (IKS)
• IKS (Generic): Two credit course
• IKS (Subject Specific): Two credit course on the chosen Major.
• The university will prepare a basket of Generic IKS courses.
• The Concern BoS will prepare a basket of Subject Specific IKS.

5 (ii) Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC)
• Sem-1 & 2, English: 04 Credits

• Sem-3 & 4, Modern Indian Language: 04 credits (Marathi, Hindi & Sanskrit)

5 (iii) VEC: Value Education Courses
• Aimed at development of Human, Ethical, Cultural and Constitutional values.

6 (i) Internship and Apprenticeship/OJT
• Corresponding to the Major (Core) Subject: 8 Credits

• The credit calculation shall be 1 Credit = 45 hrs of Internship/OJT/Project Work.

• It has a prominent role to play in linking higher education with the


requirements of the Industry and world of work.

• It is considered to be one of the most effective ways to develop skilled manpower.

• UGC, Govt. of Maharashtra and KBCNMU has framed guidelines for HEI’s.

• Every HEI will undertake MoU/Linkages agreements with local industry /


business firms / trading agencies / MSME / local self-government / bank etc.

• HEI’s are requested to follow guidelines of KBCNMU.

6 (ii) Field Projects
• Corresponding to the Major (Core) Subject.

• The field-based learning/project should attempt to provide opportunities for students


to understand the different socio-economic contexts.

• It should aim at giving students exposure to development-related issues in rural and


urban settings.

• A small project work concerning the achievements of India in different fields.

• Community work such as promotion of values of National Integration, Environment,


Human Rights and Duties, Peace, Civic Sense etc.

• Activity exploring different aspects of Indian Civilizations.

• Study groups/seminar circles on Indian thoughts and ideas.

6 (iii) Co-curricular

If aspirant in semester-1 select Co-
Curricular Course CC-1(A), then in the
consecutive semesters, he/she has to
select CC-2(A), CC-3(A), CC-4(A)
respectively.

6 (iv) Research Project (10 Credits)

• To be completed in IV year of FYUG.

• Compulsory for students opting for FYUG Honors with


research degree.

• Credits can be suitably split between Semester VII and


Semester VIII of FYUG.

B. Sc (Honors/Research) – First Year

• At first year Student will select maximum three subjects (M-1, M-2, M-3) of equal credits
(instead of Major and /or Minor verticals) (Source: Mah. Govt. circular Dt. 13/03/2024).
• College will prepare List of Combinations of three subjects offered in FYBSc and display in
Prospectus/Website.

B. Sc (Honors/Research) – Second Year

• Student must choose and declare one subject as a Major subject out of M-1, M-2, M-3, that, He / She has
chosen at First Year.
• Student must choose one subject as a Minor subject out of M-1, M-2, M-3 that He / She has chosen at First
Year. Minor must be other than Major.
• The remaining third subject shall stand discontinued.
