YARN CRAFT
Yarn is the basic resource which is used for craft

activity such as knitting, crocheting, macrame,
braiding. Exploring some of these technique by
different types of yarn itself says it yarn craft.

Concept
I have titled my work “Rajgharana”. As the name itself shows, I am

focusing on Jaipur, the royal family of Jaipur and also on Sanganeri
block printing.
Maharaja Man Singh and Princess Diya Kumari has helped the artisans of
Sanganeri hand block printing a lot in flourishing their craft.
Princess Diya Kumari has opened her own NGO name PDKF, where she is
also dealing in Sanganeri hand block printing.

Crochet is the process of creating fabric by

interlocking loops of yarn, thread or strands of
our materials using a crochet hook. The delicate
art of crocheting is a life long skill that one use
to make beautiful gifts for theirs and items for
their own home and wardrobe.
My Thoughts
I felt that crochet is such a wonderful craft. There are so many facets and variations to explore with a hook
and some yarns and also a play a colours can be done in crochet. The creative possibilities are endless.
I have seen items made with kite string, fishing line, wire, rag strips, and paper strips. I’m sure there are
some fibers used for crocheting that I have to see yet.
In this module, I have learned some of the stitches, starting from the very basic stitches. After just starting
crochet I found it very addictive and easy, earlier when I saw the products made of crochet I thought it is
very difficult, but it isn’t. As crochet is an old craft in which the yarns are also made of natural things, so
overall it is nature harmless activity with joy.

Begin by holding crochet like one holds a pencil, with thumb and index finger squeezing

Tying a slip knot onto the crochet hook is one of the very first things we need to know to
get started with crocheting. It’s the way to cast the yarn onto the hook. The abbreviation
in a pattern for the single crochet stitch is ‘.’
Quickly twist and loop the yarn onto the hook, wrap the yarn under the hook and pull it
through the loop to tighten.

Half double crochet (hdc) Yarn over, insert hook into stitch indicated, pull up a loop(3 loops in hook),
yarn over, pull yarn through loops on hook.
Double crochet (dc) Yarn over, insert hook into stitch , pull up a loop 3 loops in hook), yarn
over, pull yarn through 2 loops on hook, repeat once more.
Treble crochet (tr) Yarn over twice, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop (4 loops in hook),
yarn over, pull yarn through 2 loops on hook; repeat from* 2 times.
