This final report aimed to procedure of ad copy of Palembang Bird Park. In
this final report, the writer used procedure for ad copy script by Ranga & Koul
(2017). The procedure consists of finding ideas, creating outline, researching,
selecting material, planning messages, arranging structure, drafting script, testing
script and final draft. The writer implemented these steps by asking the experts’
opinion. The data were collected from observation and interview. After analyzing
the data, the writer started writing the script. The writer asked some experts’ opinion
about the content and language. The result is a script entitled “Palembang Bird Park
as a Tourism Destination in Palembang”

First of all, the writer would like to thank Allah SWT for the blessing so the
writer could finish the final report on time. The writer is very grateful because she
can accomplish the requirement of making the final report entitled “The
Copywriting of Palembang Bird Parks as a Tourism Destination in Palembang.” to
fill the needs of English Department Diploma III curriculum of State Polytechnic
of Sriwijaya.
The writer also would like to thank all people who have given support in writing
and finishing to this final report, may it be family, partner, lectures and all friends
in English Department at State Polytechnic of Sriwijaya, especially for Mrs. Dra.

1 CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
A tourism destination is a place where all kinds of tourist activities can be
carried out. It is chosen by tourists for rest and relaxation. Based on Goeldner and
Ritchie (2003), a tourist destination is a specific geographical area with a visitor
who enjoy various travel experiences. This means tourists travel for a variety
of reasons, such as leisure, business trips, and education. The purpose of leisure
tourism is to get relaxation, rest and enjoyment, while business trip is done for
business meetings, conference, and convention and education trip related to school
and collage visits to study experiences.
Palembang City, is one of the largest cities in Indonesia with many tourist
destinations, for example, religious tourist destinations like Masjid Agung
Palembang, Masjid Ceng Ho, natural flora and fauna tourist destination such as
Punti Kayu, for Museum tourist destination like Balaputradewa Museum, Sultan
Mahmud Badarudin II Museum, historical relics destination such as Kuto Besak
Fort, and educational tourist destination like Palembang Bird Park.
Palembang Bird Park is the first bird park in Palembang. It is located on JL.
Gubernur H. Bastari, Komplek Opi Mall Jakabaring. There are many kinds of
animals there such as birds, turtles, iguanas, fish, cat, snakes, alligator, deer,
kangaroo and rabbits. Palembang Bird Park is home to over 1000 species of birds,
such as parakeets, starlings, canaries, zebras, eagle, emu bird and other types which
makes visiting the park very interesting (Linda, 2020). At Palembang Bird Park,
tourists can enjoy various activities, such as holding and feeding animals, playing
with animals such as snakes and macaws, taking pictures, horseback riding, and
more.
With all the potential it has, it is unfortunate because the writer found a
problem that exists in Palembang Bird Park. Due to the covid-19, that happened
from 2019 until 2022 a there is decrease to it the number of visitors to Palembang
Bird Park until now according to Titin (2020) the decline in the number of visitors
is up to 70 percent, from usual during long holidays, from thousands of visitors now

only hundreds. In additions the lack of information about Palembang Bird Park in
the society and the promotion that is not good made Palembang Bird Park deserted
by visitors.
Therefore, it needs promotion to make more visitors come to Palembang
Bird Park again. Promotion can be done by making video script because video more
interesting and eye-catching than photograph. According to Riana (2007, p.8) video
can clarify and make it easier to deliver messages, overcoming the limitations of
time space and instructor.
Based on the explanation above the writer would like to write the final report
entitled The Copywriting of Palembang Bird Park as a Tourism Destination in
Palembang.

1.2 Problem Formulation


Based on background, the problem formulation of this final report is how to
write a ad copy of Palembang Bird Park as a tourism destination in Palembang

1.3 Problem Limitation


The problem limitation described the writer will focus on how to write ad
copy of Palembang Bird Park as a tourism destination in Palembang.

1.4 Purpose of The Study


The purpose of this study is to know how to write ad copy to promote
Palembang Bird Park as a tourism destination.

1.5 Benefit
The benefits of this study to give knowledge to the student English
Department of Sriwijaya State Polytechnic about how to know to write ad copy of
Palembang Bird Park.
2 CHAPTER II
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Script
Writing is a process of expressing ideas and thoughts using written words
in order to communicate with the readers. This is supported by Kurnia (2015), states
that writing is a way of thinking; expressing ideas in written form to create an act
of communication between the writer and the reader. It is a way to create
information and images in a reader’s mind. In addition, Yunus (2014) states that
writing is an activity of systematically pouring thoughts into written form.
Alternatively, it is the process of contemplating, exploring, and developing an idea
and expressing it in written form.
In addition, Nunan (2003) states that writing is an intellectual activity of
finding the ideas and thinking about the way to express and arrange them into a
statement and paragraph that is clear to be understood by the people. Moreover,
White and Arndt (1991) as citied in Hammad (2013), writing is a thinking process
which demands intellectual effort and it involves generating ideas, planning, goal
setting, monitoring, evaluating what is going to be written as well as what has been
written and using language for expressing exact meanings.
Scripts are very helpful in making videos and also a good video script will
produce a good video. Jakacaping (2018) lists four elements when creating a good
script:
1. Hook
In this step the narrator must find interesting words or sentences to attract
the audience to keep watching the video. This depends on the content of your video.
In this case, the video content will be about information related to the Palembang
Bird Park.
2. Introduction
In this step you have to tell about your content and also introduce yourself
first because the audience has not known you before. For example, about
Palembang Bird Park information. You should provide some information about
your video content. Tell the viewers why they should watch the video.

3. Content
In this step you should explain what your video content is about as this is
the main point that has supporting details about the content. This element makes
the audience curious about your video.
4. Closing
If your video content is about telling historical information, make sure to
provide the audience with information related to it. And also, in this video, it will
provide information to the audience regarding the history, location and
accessibility, uniqueness and philosophy, facilities provided, and attractiveness of
the Palembang Bird Park.
In details, Ranga and Koul (2017) stated different stages of making script.
There are nine stages of writing video script. The stages are as follows:
1. Finding idea
At this stage, the writer needs to think and discuss about the idea and main
message that will be applied in the video script.
2. Creating outline
After the writer finds the ideas and main message, the writer should arrange
and select them and put them into brief or outline. That can be the title,
objectives, audiences, and duration.
3. Researching
During this stage, the writer may find any supporting materials regarding
the topic will be written. It can be from, observation field, journals, interviewee
and experts.
4. Selecting material
At this stage, the writer arranges and selects the supporting material that
already collects in the research stage and chose the most relevant material that
will be presented on the video.
5. Planning message
It is important to know a good strategy to deliver the message that contains
on the video. The writer should provide a creative and interesting way to deliver
the message.

6. Arranging structure
The writer has to arrange the script which one is the opening, the body and
also the closing of the script.
7. Making storyboard
Storyboard is related to the visual and spoken words on the video. This stage
can help the script writer to think visually and develop the script.
8. Drafting script
In this stage, the writer can write the whole script.
9. Testing script
The last stage is to test the effectiveness of the script. The writer can apply
the scripts on the video to test comprehensibility of the content, language, and
relevance of the material. If the scripts are not perfect, the text can be revised
again at this stage.
A good script will lead to a good video. These are the tips how to make a
good script according to Ramdan (2018)
1. Make title page. The script will need title page. This includes the title and name
of the writer.
2. Image titled. Use fonts, borders, and separations of pages or parts (breaks) that
are correct. Can use courier fonts (size 12) when writing scripts this type of font
will not only make the display more professional but as important to make the
script easier to read.
3. Give good details about the information and messages. Use information that
explains the topic in more detail about scene before the script applied on the
video.
4. Use correct formatting for the way or presentation that the writer wants. If the
writer wants to write a video script, the writer must write the script in that
format. Although the writing of the scripts is mostly similar, but there are some
differences and to learn all that takes a long time.
5. Make sure the writer doesn't too much. Script usually only last about one minute
per page, although of course there is an allowance for adjustments.

6. Scripts are not like books where the number of words influences, which is a
surefire way to measure the length. Use sentences that are easy to understand.
In making a script, use sentences that are short, concise, and easy to understand.
Avoid using negative sentences, because negative sentences can reduce or even
obscure the meaning you want to convey.
In addition, Cockerham (2016) gives some tips for making good scripts in
the video. The tips are as follows:
1. Writing a brief first
To write a script that drives the results you want, you definitely need to write
a short video. This not only helps you understand your goals, but also helps you to
understand your audience and you want to show them.
2. Turning your message into a story
For each video content that you want to communicate (your brief will help
you identify this). The trick is to translate these core messages into simple stories
for your script to follow.
3. Speaking in a language understood by your audience
When writing your script, always speak the language of your audience and
not your language. Your script must match the sound of your brand, but not to the
detriment of the audience. If you can conclude real words and phrases your audience
uses on their way to great video scripts.
4. Keeping its short and simple
When it comes to writing scripts, less is always more. Say what you need to
say and keep it as short as possible.
5. Don't use words
You make videos, not write novels. You have more than words to play with
your script.
6. Doing some script reading
Once you get the concept of a video script that can be applied, you should
start reading it.
7. Checking your brief
You must have several revisions rounds to do with any video script

2.2 Script Functions


Script is required for video production because by writing the script the
video will be more organized. The producer will generate the video based on the
video script. Ayu (2019) stated that “Ada beberapa fungsi utama dari naskah dalam
sebuah video”. It means that there are some main script functions in the video.
First, the function is a "Basic concept" script as the basic concept means that
the quality of the script will determine the final result of the video making process
over time. This is because the script usually contains material that is essential to
producing a video like this: ideas, details or messages. Those items will be
transmitted through the news line, characters, settings, equipment and used camera
types. For this reason, the script serves as the basic concept of the video.
The second, “Direction” is the script that is used as a guide for video
production. The video will be more organized with the script because it will prevent
the video from being in the content. In this case, the writer needs to create content
and sequence based on the script created. The video will be more edited due to the
video script.
The third, “Reference” script will act as a reference which means that the
script is being used by the writer as a reference for making a video. All single tasks
related to the video production process should be based on the script created.
It can be concluded that the function of the script is the basic concept, the
direction and the reference, so the writer made a copywriting of Palembang Bird
Park as a Tourism Destination as a reference for making a video.
3 CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
3.1 Procedure
At this stage, the writer described the procedure for writing the video
script. There are procedures and implementation that the writer refers to Ranga
and Koul (2017), regarding the steps for writing a video script. They suggest
finding ideas, creating outlines, researching, selecting material, planning
messages, arranging structure, drafting script, testing script and final draft.

3.2 The Steps for Writing Video Script


1. Finding Idea
The first step is to formulate an idea to collect data. To find ideas, the writer
conducted literature studies and field surveys. During this step, the writer used the
ideas from Rangga and Koul’s research (2017). The writer has to think and talk
about the main idea and message of the video script.
a. Literature Study
In the literature study the writer found out the information about the script
starts from the theories, criteria of a good script, and elements of script and
stages of writing a good script. Then the writer also tried to find information
about Palembang Bird Park by reading several articles on the internet and social
media.
b. Field survey
In the field survey, the writer went to Palembang Bird Park. The writer
found that is the location of Palembang Bird Park located in Opi Mall area.
Based on the field survey, the writer collected the information, which was the
content of the video script that focused on the Palembang Bird Park through
observation and interview.
In the observation, at first, the writer makes a list of data that must be
collected as follows:
1. What are the facilities in Palembang Bird Park?
2. Where is the location of Palembang Bird Park?
3. What are the attractions in Palembang Bird Park?

5. How are things going at Palembang Bird Park?
The writer interviewed Mrs. Susan, the owner of the Palembang Bird Park.
The writer asks several things:
1. Why Palembang Bird Park is built?
2. What is the price of Palembang Bird Park?
3. What does the entrance ticket for Palembang Bird Park?
4. What facilities are provided in Palembang Bird Park?
5. When does Palembang Bird Park open?
6. How does the visitor go to the Palembang Bird Park?
2. Creating Outline
After finding ideas from the previous steps, the writer must select these
ideas into a summary or outline. It includes the title, target audience, duration,
structure, program objectives, and script synopsis. The outline that will be made
can help the writer arrange and write the story and can make it into the form the
writer wants.

3. Researching
Researching is needed after finding an idea that will be made into a
manuscript. In this context, research involves studying and collecting information
related to the manuscript. After collecting the ideas from literature studies and field
surveys, the writer should focus on the thesis of the manuscript, which is about
interest in Palembang Bird Park. The writer should then read and analyze the
literature studiesand field surveys to incorporate them into the manuscript.

4. Selecting Material
After finding material through literature studies and field surveys, the
writer, selected the material most relevant to the topic to be presented in the video.
At this stage, the writer notes some important material to be put in the video. The
writer started writing the manuscript based on information obtained from
observations and interviews with Mrs. Susan the owner of Palembang Bird Park,
such as the location, history, access, facilities, and the entrance ticket price.

5. Planning Message

It is important to design a delivery strategy. In other words, at this stage,


scriptwriters need to pay attention to providing creative ways of conveying
material.
6. Arranging Structure
At this stage, the writer needs to set the beginning, middle, and closing
conveyed in the video. At this stage, the writer refers to Jakacaping (2018)
regarding of writing a good script.

Closing The recommendation by promoting Palembang Bird Park

At this stage, the writer starts to make the first draft of the video script based
on four parts (hook, opening, body, and closing). At this stage, the writer needs to
involve several experts related to the manuscript being written. The writer started
writing the first draft based on information obtained from observations and
interviews with Mrs. Berliana, the manager of Palembang Bird Park. Textual
information about Palembang Bird Park includes location, short story, access,
facilities, and price.

7. Testing Script
The final stage is to test the effectiveness of the script. This stage is to assess
the presentation, completeness of the content, language difficulties, and relevance
of the material. The writer, will gave the script to some experts that validation the
video script. First, the writer gave the video script to Mrs. Susan the owner of
Palembang Bird Park, to check the contents of the video script. Then the writer
gives the video script to a language expert to check the grammatical error in the
English draft and give corrections and suggestions.

8. Final Draft
The final draft is the result of a revision of the input provided by content
experts.Finally, the script is used as a final draft of the product.
4 CHAPTER IV
DISCUSSION

4.1 Discussion
This chapter elaborates on the process of writing a script;
1. Finding Idea
The writer found an idea as a source to start writing video scripts by
conducting literature studies. The writer read an article on the Andalas Tourism
website about Palembang Bird Park entitled "Palembang Bird Park Wisata Edukasi
dengan Beragam Jenis Satwa" Apart from that, the writer also found a video on
YouTube that explained the good elements of writing a video script, according to
Jakakaping (2018) entitled “Lessons from Writing 3,000+ Video Script”.
After conducting a literature study, the writer conducted a field survey at
Palembang Bird Park and obtained information about Palembang Bird Park through
observation and interviews.

1. Observation
In this study, the writer visited Palembang Bird Park, located in Opi Mall
area, directly to find out the real situation of the object and know what kind of
information could be collected by the writer. In this step, the writer made a list of
data that must be collected as follows:
1. What are the facilities in the Palembang Bird Park?
2. Where is the location of Palembang Bird Park?
3. What are the attractions in Palembang Bird Park?
4. What are in the Palembang Bird Park?
5. How are things going at Palembang Bird Park?
After doing the observation, the writer collected the data in a folder on the
flash disk in order to make the writer easily to find the support data written in
observation form and it also made it the writer is easier to comprehend the
information.

2. Interview
The writer held the interview by coming directly to the location of the
interview. Previously, the writer had contacted the interviewees and arranged a
schedule to meet and conduct interviews. Each interview had a duration of 8-10
minutes, and there would be six questions that would be asked by interviewed the
owner of Palembang Bird Park, Mrs. Susan. The following are questions that the
writer used in interview:
1. Why Palembang Bird Park is built?
2. What is the price of Palembang Bird Park?
3. What does the entrance ticket for Palembang Bird Park?
4. What facilities are provided in Palembang Bird Park?
5. When does Palembang Bird Park open?
6. How does the visitor go to the Palembang Bird Park?
After conducting the interview, the writer tried to listen and wrote it as an
interview transcript. Then the writer used the important points of information to be
selecting material what will be written in the script.

2. Creating Outline
After the writer found the ideas and main message, the writer arranged, and
selected them and put them into the brief or outline. The writer set a plan that was
related to plan the title, target audience, objectives, duration, structure, and synopsis
of the script. The outline of the script is as follows:

3. Researching
The writer conducted research to find additional data to support the data
collected in literature studies and field surveys that have been conducted
previously. The writer focused on the accuracy of location Palembang Bird Park
by searching on google maps.

4. Selecting Material
At this stage, the writer arranged and selected the supporting material that
already collects in the research stage and chose the most relevant material that will
be presented on the video.
After collecting the material through observation and interview, the writer
selected the most relevant material with the topic that would be presented on the

5. Arranging Structure
In this stage, the writer arranged the structure of the script. The writer
divided the structure into four parts according to Jakacaping (2018) which is the
hook, opening, body, and also closing of the script. The following table (table 4.1)

Finally, the writer finished the first draft of the video script. Then, the writer
was ready to do the next stage, which was testing the video script.
7. Testing Script
This stage is to test the effectiveness of the script. The writer asked some
experts to test the comprehensibility of the content and language of the script. If the
scripts are not perfect, the text can be revised again. After doing some testing, the
writer revised the script based on the comments and suggestions that the experts
gave.
The writer gave the first draft of the script to two experts that were from
different background, those were expert of tourism and expert of linguistic. The

first expert checked and validated the content of the script, and the second expert
checked the language of the video script. For the content validation, the writer gave
the printed video script draft to Mrs. Berliana, she is Manager of Palembang Bird
Park. She said that the script was good. The arrangement of the script was clear,
started from Hook, Opening, Body and Closing. But it she gave a suggestion to
correct the grammatical errors in the script. Table 4.6 explains the revision of the
content in the video script.

draft as the final product. This was considered as the result, and it would not pass
any testing anymore. It is a video script which contains information about

5 CHAPTER V
CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION
5.1 Conclusion
The writer concludes that the video script entitled “Palembang Bird Park as
a Tourism Destination in Palembang” as a medium to promote Palembang Bird
Park. The script contains: the title, the introduction, the main body and the closing.
The introduction introduces educational tourism, Palembang Bird Park. The main
body of the script provides history of the Palembang Bird Park the operational
hours, the price of the entrance ticket, facilities, the activities that can be done, how
to access the Palembang Bird Park and the attractions in Palembang Bird Park. The
conclusion of the script persuades the viewers to visit Palembang Bird Park. After
the script was written the writer puts the script in a video and uploads the video on
YouTube which can be accessed at https;//youtube/828sdjshxcbd.com The script
helps the tourists get information about Palembang Bird Park.

5.2 Suggestion
The writer gives suggestion to the students of English Department at State
Polytechnic of Sriwijaya to write a video script about other educational tourism
destinations in Palembang.
