1 CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
A tourism destination is a place where all kinds of tourist activities can be
carried out. It is chosen by tourists for rest and relaxation. Based on Goeldner and
Ritchie (2003), a tourist destination is a specific geographical area with a visitor
who enjoy various travel experiences. This means tourists travel for a variety
of reasons, such as leisure, business trips, and education. The purpose of leisure
tourism is to get relaxation, rest and enjoyment, while business trip is done for
business meetings, conference, and convention and education trip related to school
and collage visits to study experiences.
Palembang City, is one of the largest cities in Indonesia with many tourist
destinations, for example, religious tourist destinations like Masjid Agung
Palembang, Masjid Ceng Ho, natural flora and fauna tourist destination such as
Punti Kayu, for Museum tourist destination like Balaputradewa Museum, Sultan
Mahmud Badarudin II Museum, historical relics destination such as Kuto Besak
Fort, and educational tourist destination like Palembang Bird Park.
Palembang Bird Park is the first bird park in Palembang. It is located on JL.
Gubernur H. Bastari, Komplek Opi Mall Jakabaring. There are many kinds of
animals there such as birds, turtles, iguanas, fish, cat, snakes, alligator, deer,
kangaroo and rabbits. Palembang Bird Park is home to over 1000 species of birds,
such as parakeets, starlings, canaries, zebras, eagle, emu bird and other types which
makes visiting the park very interesting (Linda, 2020). At Palembang Bird Park,
tourists can enjoy various activities, such as holding and feeding animals, playing
with animals such as snakes and macaws, taking pictures, horseback riding, and
more.
With all the potential it has, it is unfortunate because the writer found a
problem that exists in Palembang Bird Park. Due to the covid-19, that happened
from 2019 until 2022 a there is decrease to it the number of visitors to Palembang
Bird Park until now according to Titin (2020) the decline in the number of visitors
is up to 70 percent, from usual during long holidays, from thousands of visitors now

only hundreds. In additions the lack of information about Palembang Bird Park in
the society and the promotion that is not good made Palembang Bird Park deserted
by visitors.
Therefore, it needs promotion to make more visitors come to Palembang
Bird Park again. Promotion can be done by making video script because video more
interesting and eye-catching than photograph. According to Riana (2007, p.8) video
can clarify and make it easier to deliver messages, overcoming the limitations of
time space and instructor.
Based on the explanation above the writer would like to write the final report
entitled The Copywriting of Palembang Bird Park as a Tourism Destination in
Palembang.

1.2 Problem Formulation


Based on background, the problem formulation of this final report is how to
write a ad copy of Palembang Bird Park as a tourism destination in Palembang

1.3 Problem Limitation


The problem limitation described the writer will focus on how to write ad
copy of Palembang Bird Park as a tourism destination in Palembang.

1.4 Purpose of The Study


The purpose of this study is to know how to write ad copy to promote
Palembang Bird Park as a tourism destination.

1.5 Benefit
The benefits of this study to give knowledge to the student English
Department of Sriwijaya State Polytechnic about how to know to write ad copy of
Palembang Bird Park.
