PRATICAL SHOOTING IN DAVAO SUR POLICE PROVINCIAL OFFICE

On October 22, 2022, Hipolito B. Quillip, Jr., PhD, Department Chair, Department
of Criminal Justice Education (DCJE), University of Mindanao Digos College led a
practical shooting in Davao Sur Police Provincial with participation from one hundred and
thirty-five (135) criminology students. The activity's goal was to learn proper shooting
techniques and firearm handling techniques.
The target paper was then shot with five (5) rounds for the Galil ace 5.56, and I
was overjoyed to hit the bulls-eye 15 for the first time on my first genuine shot. Although
I'm nervous, I'm proud of myself because it made me feel so pleased to reach 15.
The teacher advised us to align the rear and front sights, hold the grip loosely, and
regulate my breathing if I wanted to hit the target paper with my first shot, which I did when
we used the Glock 17 9mm and I hit the parts 8 and 10.
Last but not least, I want to express my gratitude to the teacher who educated us,
instructed us how to shoot correctly, and was gentle with me. We would also like to
express our gratitude to our beloved Doc Hipolito B. Quillip Jr. for his kindness and
patience in fulfilling his promise to us during the pandemic that we will undertake a real
shooting after the pandemic. We also want to express our sincere thanks to our beautiful
and influential Mrs. Lalaine D. Madanlo for all of her efforts, sacrifices, and support in
making the actual shooting possible.
Recently I learnt the four rules of gun safety, how to shoot properly, how to handle
a gun properly, how to manage my breathing while firing, and to always point my gun in a
safe manner. Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot, treat all firearms
as if they were loaded, and always be certain of your target and what lies beyond it.
