Assessment Task 2: CHCAGE001 Facilitate the

empowerment of older people


Task Description: This work placement task requires the student to demonstrate their ability to use verbal and
nonverbal communication strategies to develop a positive and respectful relationship with older clients. In this
task you are required to interview one (1) client/resident with additional support needs. You can also involve the
family member or carer if they are present at the time of an interview.

Conditions needed to complete your work placement task:

o relevant aids to assist with independent living

Instructions:

 You must interview one resident/client as per task requirements


 The interview must be recorded in the template below
 Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of the resident/client

Note: Please attach any client notes, meeting minutes or other documents prepared as part of this assessment
activity. Students and Trainers/Assessors must ensure that the client's right to privacy and confidentiality with
regards to personal details are upheld at all times.

Activity B: Observation
Your Assessor will observe you in the workplace. You are required to show that you respond to the goals and
aspirations of older people and provide support services in a manner that focuses on improving health outcomes
and quality of life, using a person-centred approach.

While observing, your Assessor may ask questions to get clarification of your understanding of your job role.

Student instructions:

In the previous task you needed to conduct an interview with an older person. For the observation within the
workplace you will be observed by your Assessor in your interactions with the older adults you are in contact with.

During the observation, you need to show the assessor that they can:

 respond to the goals and aspirations of an older person


 Use a flexible, adaptable and person-centred approach to empower the individual
 that you can recognise and respond appropriately to situations of risk or potential risk, and
 use oral communication skills to maintain a positive and respectful relationship

Where a skill cannot be demonstrated in the workplace, the Assessor will provide realistic in-depth industry
validated scenarios and simulations, such as role plays, to assess your skills.

Empower the individual by:

 Physical, emotional or financial abuse
 Neglect
