EE2006D ELECTRICAL MACHINES I

(Assignment-4: to be submitted on or before 08.04.2022)

Write your Serial no., Roll no. and Name on the answer sheet.

1. If a 500kVA single-phase transformer has an efficiency of 95% both at full load and 60% full

load at upf, determine its efficiency at 75% full load at a power factor of 0.8 lagging.

2. A 20kVA, 2500/250V, 50Hz, single phase transformer gave the following data on test. OC test

(low voltage side): 250V, 1.4A & 105W and SC test (high voltage side): 104V, 8A & 320W. Draw

the equivalent circuit of the transformer referred to low voltage side and insert the parameter

values.

3. A 10kVA, 500/250V, 50Hz, single phase transformer gave the following data on test. OC test

(low voltage side): 250V, 3A & 200W and SC test (low voltage side): 15V, 30A & 300W. Calculate

its full load voltage regulation and efficiency at a power factor of 0.8 lagging.

4. Two 100kVA, single phase transformers are connected in parallel on both primary and secondary

sides. One transformer has an ohmic drop of 0.5% and a reactive drop of 8% of the voltage on

full load. The other has corresponding drops of 0.75% and 4% respectively. How will the following

total loads be shared? (a) 180kW at 0.9 lagging power factor, (b) 120kW at 0.6 lagging power

factor and (c) 200kW at unity power factor.

5. Two single phase transformers A and B are connected in parallel to supply a load having a

resistance of 5 and an inductive reactance of 2. The equivalent resistance and reactance of

transformer A referred to the secondary winding are 0.25 and 1.5 and that of transformer B

are 0.3 and 2 respectively. The open circuit secondary voltages of A and B are in the ratio

100:98. Calculate the inductive reactance to be connected in series with the secondary of

transformer B to have the magnitudes of the currents delivered by A and B in the ratio 1.8:1.

6. Prepare short notes on the following with neat sketches wherever necessary:

a. Methods of cooling of transformers.

b. Tap changing of transformers.

c. Connections of three phase transformers.
