ABSTRACT

Catbalogan City, Samar is a developing city in the Philippines, and an increase in vehicle
ownership is becoming more noticeable. This rise in the number of vehicles contributes to
various road issues within the city, including significant traffic congestion, particularly during
peak hours in the morning, noon, and afternoon when workers and students commute.
Moreover, this case study first explores the researchers' examination of Catbalogan City's
transportation system, based on results gathered from an online survey. The survey provided
valuable insights into the current transportation patterns and preferences of the city's
residents. Using this information, researchers leveraged a Global Positioning System (GPS) road
map application to generate alternative routes in selected areas within the city. These
alternative routes aim to bypass areas prone to heavy traffic and other road issues, providing
more efficient and less congested travel options. Furthermore, the findings from this study
support the researchers' goal of helping citizens utilize the full potential of some underutilized
roadways within the city. By highlighting and promoting these alternative routes, the study
aims to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and improve the overall commuting
experience for Catbalogan's residents.
