Assessment Task No. 3

Assessment Task: Indoor Air Quality and Computer Labs

This assessment focuses on your understanding of potential indoor air quality (IAQ) issues in
computer labs and their impact on computer engineers.

Scenario: You work in a large computer lab with several rows of computers running constantly. You
notice a persistent stuffy feeling and occasional headaches while working in the lab for
extended periods.

Instructions:
1. Air Quality Concerns (4 points): Identify two potential indoor air quality concerns that might
be present in a computer lab environment.
ANSWER:
1.) Poor ventilation
2.) Accumulation of dust

2. Health Effects (4 points): Briefly explain the potential health effects associated with each air
quality concern you identified in question 1.
ANSWER:
1.) Poor ventilation - Accumulation of carbon dioxide indoors can lead to difficulties in
concentration and even headaches.

2.) Accumulation of dust - Inhaling the dust can cause wheezing and coughing. And
prolonged exposure to dust can cause respiratory problems.

3. Control Measures (6 points): Describe three control measures that can be implemented to
improve the air quality within the computer lab.
ANSWER:
1.) Provide Good Ventilation - This can manage the proper circulation of air inside the
computer lab.
2.) Regular cleaning - This will not only solve the accumulation of dust problem, but
will also keep the laboratory clean.
3.) Utilization of air purifiers - This can solve the issue of both ventilation and dust
accumulation.

4. Personal Practices (6 points): Explain three personal practices you can adopt to minimize
the impact of potential air quality issues on your health.
ANSWER:
1.) Usage of facemask - This can keep me away from inhaling the air pollutants.
2.) Regular cleaning - This can keep my workplace clean and maintain the
accumulation level of dust to low
3.) Keeping plants as natural air purifiers - this can maintain the air quality of a room.
