(8) METHODOLOGY

The experimental and developmental design will be used in this study. According to Richey &
Klein (2005) the goal of developmental research is to evaluate goods, tools, processes, and models in
order to offer practitioners and researchers with trustworthy, useable information. However, research is
strongly intertwined to real-world application. It establishes a feedback cycle in which practice informs
research and research improves practice. This study is considered as such since it applies a scientific
approach and aims to produce a novel product which is to be tested through series of processes. The
sensory, consistency, and affordability of Indian Head Ginger shampoo will all be put to test.

Indian Head Ginger (Coctus Spicatus) extract, gloves, and cribble are all required for the study.
The extract of Indian Head Ginger will then be educed by the researcher. To avoid obtaining
unnecessary microorganisms in the product, the work station must be disinfected and enclosed. The
Indian Head Ginger must be manually squashed, and the fluids must be collected in a clean container. To
achieve the desired outcomes, this procedure should be completed in 5 to 10 minutes. To make the
components less messy, a funnel, beaker, and flask will be required for this study. To begin, the
researcher will need 60 mL of Indian Head Ginger extract, 10 mL of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or surfactant
and 5–10 leaves of Plumeria Flower in the formulation. Using a funnel, pour 60 mL of Indian Head Ginger
extract into the beaker. On the formulation, 10 mL of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or surfactant will be added.
After that, the funnel will be removed and the Plumeria Flower leaves will be added one by one. The
solution will be boiled for around 15–20 minutes at a temperature just below boiling point. The mixture
will be placed in a flask and allow it to cool after the process.

The Physical Appearance/Visual Inspection, determination of pH, determination of percentage

of solid contents, measurement of Viscosity, cleaning action, foaming ability and foam stability will be
tested through the process as adapted from the research of Sharma et al. 2021.

a. Physical Appearance/Visual inspection

The clarity, color, and odor of the developed formulations will be evaluated. A five-point Likert
Scale Questionnaire will be used to determine all evaluations, which will be reported and discussed.

b. Determination of pH

To make a sample with a 10% concentration, the developed mixture will be dissolved in distilled
water. A digital pH meter will be used to assess the pH of the prepared sample at room temperature
(302°C).

c. Determination of Percentage Solids Contents

A clean, dry china dish will be weighed, and 4 grams of shampoo will be added. The shampooed
dish will be weighed. The shampoo's exact weight will be calculated. The shampoo-filled china dish will
be placed on a hot plate to evaporate the liquid component. The weight after drying will also be
calculated.

d. Measurement of Viscosity

The viscosity of the shampoo will be determined using a Brookfield Viscometer LVDV Prime-I,
which will be used to test the viscosity of the shampoo at room temperature (302°C) with changing rpm
and torque.

e. Foaming Ability and Foam Stability

The foaming ability will be evaluated using the cylinder shaking method with slight adjustments.
A 250 ml graduated measuring container will be filled with 50ml of the 1% shampoo solution and
covered with hand. For one minute, the measuring cylinder will be shaken. After one minute of shaking,
the total volume of the foam contents will be recorded. The operation will be repeated for a total of 5
minutes.

Mean will be used to determine the acceptability of the formulation in terms of its Physical
Appearance/Visual Inspection, Determination of pH, Determination of Percentage Solid Contents,
Measurement of Viscosity & Foaming Ability and Foam Stability. To test the significant difference of the
formulation and the commercial product in terms of Physical Appearance/Visual Inspection,
Determination of pH, Determination of Percentage Solid Contents, Measurement of Viscosity & Foaming
Ability and Foam Stability, the researcher will use Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).

To make the components less messy, a funnel, beaker, and flask will be required for this study. To begin,
the researcher will need 60 mL of Indian Head Ginger extract, 10 mL of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or
surfactant, and 5–10 leaves of Plumeria Flower in the formulation. Using a funnel, pour 60 mL of Indian
Head Ginger extract into the beaker. On the formulation, 10 mL of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or surfactant
will be added. After that, the funnel will be removed and the Plumeria Flower leaves will be added one
by one. The solution will be boiled for around 15–20 minutes at a temperature just below boiling point.
The mixture will be placed in a flask and allow it to cool after the process.
