Conclusions
Analysis and design of typical three storeys Loadbearing cross-wall building was
performed by using two type of clay brick the design results was used to validate the
accuracy of using the two types of bricks in the multistory building and to check
whether their design will withstand the given load condition. Based on study results
the following conclusions were made:
1. According to the design results of type one (clay block). the design strength
of type one (clay block) with dimension of 280 mm length, 180 mm wide and
130 mm high masonry unit which have compressive strength of 5 MPa
classified as group 2b basis on the ratio of hole volume, set in a designation
(iii) (1:4 to 5) mortar is lesser than the calculated design loads of three storeys
Loadbearing one-brick 280 mm thick cross-wall masonry building. Hence, it
is not satisfactory.
2. Based on the design results of type two (clay brick) with dimension of
200 mm length, 95 mm wide and 65 mm high masonry unit which have
compressive strength of 20 MPa classified as group 2a basis on the ratio of
hole volume, set in a designation (iii) (1:4 to 5) mortar. The design of the
three storeys Loadbearing one and half-brick 300 mm thick cross-wall
masonry building is safe and capable of fulfilling the building function.
3. It is strongly recommended to use the type two (clay brick) - after proper
analysis and design- in design of multistory building since this type give an
excellent results, while the other type is failed.

Recommendations for Future Research

More investigation is needed for the two types of clay bricks -or other types if any-
by using another type of multi-storey masonry building with different Load Bearing
wall thickness to verify the compressive strength of the assembled materials,
including masonry units and mortar and to evaluate the usage of these bricks for
four- storey masonry building as maximum for low rise buildings.
