WEAVE Visa Recommendations for Interns and Volunteers

General Information

Please refer to the Royal Thai Embassy responsible for your place of residence for reliable and recent
visa information and regulations. By searching online or calling the Royal Thai Embassy responsible
for your country or city, you will get information about which kind of visa applies to your request and
the purpose of your stay in Thailand. With this information, you will need to check online or ask which
documents are required from you, your university, and WEAVE as the organization offering you a
volunteer or internship position. In the next step, please inform your contact person at WEAVE about
the documents required by the organization for your visa application. The following visa types are
usually applicable for volunteer and internship positions at WEAVE:

Non-Immigrant ED (curricular internship) Visa

This visa type is usually recommended by the Royal Thai Embassy if you are a university student
wanting to do a curricular internship at WEAVE. For this visa, you will need a document from your
university confirming the internship is part of the curriculum of your study program. In case you
apply for this visa, WEAVE will provide you with a letter of acceptance and confirmation of your
internship placement with the organization for your visa application. For further required documents,
please refer to your respective Royal Thai Embassy. If you plan to do a curricular internship with the
organization, WEAVE recommends an application for a non-immigrant ED (curricular internship) visa.

Non-Immigrant ED or B (non-curricular internship) Visa

This visa type is usually recommended by the Royal Thai Embassy if you are planning on doing a
non-curricular or extracurricular internship at WEAVE. Depending on your nationality the
requirements for this visa vary greatly, people from some countries do not need to provide additional
or specific documents compared to the curricular internship visa (see above), and people from other
countries need to provide proof of a monthly income with this visa type falling under the business
category, requiring alternate documents to the education form of visas, which WEAVE cannot provide
to you. However, WEAVE will provide you with a letter of acceptance and confirmation of your
internship placement with the organization for your visa application. Please refer to your respective
Royal Thai Embassy for exact information on the required documents for the non-immigrant ED or
B (non-curricular internship) visa.

Non-Immigrant O (Voluntary) Visa

This visa type is usually recommended by the Royal Thai Embassy if you are planning on doing
voluntary work with an NGO/Charity/Association without a salary. In the past, this was the go-to visa
recommendation for WEAVE volunteers and interns, although recent changes in Thai policy require
additional documents, the non-immigrant O (voluntary) visa has proven to be hard to acquire, and
recent applications for this visa of WEAVE volunteers and interns were rejected. For most
nationalities, this type of visa now requires the most documents compared to the non-immigrant ED
(curricular internship) and the non-immigrant ED or B (non-curricular internship) visas. Although
WEAVE can provide you with most of the necessary documents, some might require longer waiting
times, making this visa type only feasible for those applying a few months before their planned
arrival. Please refer to your respective Royal Thai Embassy for exact information on the required
documents for the non-immigrant O (voluntary) visa.

Tourist Visa

WEAVE does not encourage you to obtain any kind of tourist visa if you want to work with the
organization as a volunteer or intern, as this visa type is only issued for tourism and leisure activities.
Please refrain from coming to Thailand to work at WEAVE with a 30- or 60-day tourist visa and doing
visa runs to a neighboring country’s border to prolong your stay for an additional 30 days.
