What is SWAP?
Takeaway
SWAP is a program started
by Santa Rosa Junior
College, supported by
Avanzando. SWAP is a free
‘week’ long summer career
exploration program for high
school sophomores and
juniors that has two sections.
It offers hands-on laboratory
experiences and guest
speakers from various
careers in Health Sciences
and STEM, including nursing,
pharmacy, nutrition, dental,
medical assisting, radiology,
pre-med, engineering,
chemistry, biology, physics,
computer science, and
mathematics.
Gifts
Throughout the entirety of
the program, gifts were
given out to the students:

Day One
On the first day, it was a simple and
introductory day. It started with everyone
getting a gift that composed of a duffle bag
filled with a personal journal, pens, sticky
notes, a water bottle, and safety goggles. Our
laboratory experiment involved controlling a
Servo Motor with Arduino. Controlling a servo
motor with Arduino involves using an Arduino
microcontroller to operate a small motor that
can be precisely positioned, which allowed us
to move it to specific angles.
Day Two
The activity set for this day came from
specialized Emergency Medical
Technicians(EMT). They set up CPR manikins
and had a ambulance vehicle. This hands-on
day was one of my favorites as I got to learn
the technique and fundamentals behind CPR.

M On the last and final day, we developed a
prosthetic hand for individuals with upper
limb differences or limb loss. We were split
