EAEU 301-BASIC ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

ASSIGNMENT NO.1-MT:
SOLVE THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS:

1. What is the current through an electric toaster of 8 Ω resistance when it is

connected to a 120 V source?
2. A lamp draws 1.6 A when connected to a 120 V source. What is the hot
resistance of the lamp?
3. What potential difference is required to pass 3 A through 28 Ω?
4. A dry cell delivering 2 A has terminal voltage 1.41 V. What is the internal
resistance of the cell if its open circuit voltage is 1.59 V?
5. An ammeter is connected in series with an unknown resistance, and a
voltmeter is connected across the resistance. If the ammeter reads 1.2 A
and the voltmeter reads 18 V, compute the value of the resistance.
6. Compute the internal resistance of an electric generator which has an emf
of 120 V, and a terminal voltage of 110 V when supplying 20 A.
7. A 5 Ω coil is in series with a lamp and connected to a 100 V source . Compute
the resistance of the lamp if the current in the circuit is 4 A.
8. A battery has emf 13.2 V and internal resistance 0.024 Ω. I the load current
is 20.0 A, find the terminal voltage.
9. A storage battery has emf 25 V and internal resistance of 0.20 Ω. Compute
the terminal voltage (a) when it is delivering 8 A
(b) when it is being charge with 8 A.
10. A battery charger supplies a DC of 10 A to charge a storage battery which
has an open circuit voltage of 5.6 V. If the voltmeter connected across the
charge reads 6.8 V, what is the internal resistance of the battery at this
time?
