SHOPAHOLIC

Ties the Knot

Shopaholic ties the Knot is a romantic novel that was written by Sophie Kinsella, there are
several Shopaholic novels but this time it is about the wedding of the compulsive shopper,
Rebecca Bloomwood.

Rebecca is a girl who is famous around the world for her shopping addiction, Rebecca has three
rules when she goes shopping , you look at it, you buy it and you take it home, ignoring the status
of her bank account.
She loves her job, Rebecca is the best personal shopper in a New York Store; She lives in an
apartment in Manhattan with her boyfriend Luke
Her life was perfect until her boyfriend asked her if she wanted to marry him. Obviously, she
said that she did want to get married and she was very happy to marry the love of her life... but
the problem is the mothers-in-law, on the one hand Janice (Rebecca's mother) lives in a rural area
in Surrey and she wants the wedding to be in the garden of her house and that Rebecca's
wedding dress be the same one she wore. And on the other hand, Elionor (Luke's mother) wants
a big, elegant and extravagant wedding.
And the problem is that the two mothers are planning the same wedding, but with different
styles, Janice is organizing a simple wedding and Elionor is organizing an extravagant wedding.

Rebecca and Luke know they have to sit down and make a decision about their wedding, but it's
more fun to try out cakes, organize the clothes, the color palette, and finally they leave the
decision until the last minute.

The final decision of the couple changed all the plans of the mothers-in-law. They decided that
the wedding was not going to be in New York or in the countryside. It was going to be in London,
where Rebecca and Luke met a few novels ago, they asked the mothers to organize themselves,
they did not want something very sophisticated, but they didn't want something very simple
either.
The wedding was the right point between one extreme and the other, and Rebecca wore two
wedding dresses, the one her mother wanted at the ceremony, and at the party she changed the
dress to the one her mother-in-law wanted.
In the end, their wedding was perfect, and the end of the play suggests that another book is
coming, It ends with them celebrating the wedding, but it doesn't close completely.

I believe that the novel expresses what it is to organize a wedding, the nerves, the stress, the
fun, the fear, everything, it knows how to convey the emotions to the readers.

In my opinion it is written for young adults, or adolescents, I don´t see it as a children's book,
since it has a lot of text, and although the story is good and hooks you, children would get bored
reading it, since it does not have bright colors or drawings or anything like that.
Personally, I liked the book, I found it enganging, it generates suspense when you don't know
what they are planning to decide, I thought that because it was long I was going to get bored, but
the dynamic of the book make it hook you and make you want to continue reading to see what
happens, if they finally decide or not.
