The most important thing that's affecting the balance is honesty and integrity to the civilians from
the government. Hiding the usage of civilians data was the reason most people were not distrusting
the government. If government were honest about the usage of peoples data and the reason why
they need to monitor them, the liberty and the security could’ve reached equilibrium. Due to the
evidences given and the response most people gave to the leaking of NSA’s top secret information
by Edward Snowden, it can be said that the governments balance between state’s security and
individuals freedom was not correct.
2.Placing some parts of society under surveillance is a vital way of keeping society safe, and has
been for hundreds of years. Democracy, on digital spaces as much as offline ones, is the messy and
difficult art of balancing different public goods together. The European Convention of Human
Rights recognises that privacy is an important but not inviolable right.
3.”Even though the individuals freedom is important, the state security is also important. To ensure
safety of both, surveillance is needed. Civilians privacy and surveillance need to be balanced.”
