1. Why do we need to study Disaster Risk Reduction and Management?
First, what is Disaster Risk Reduction and Management? It is a measure of poor
development causing hazards during disasters. It deals with emergency responses
during natural disasters or even man-made disasters, they are the one that also
reduces the hazard, exposure and vulnerability of the affected community to block the
possible losses and casualties during and after a catastrophe. Disaster Risk Reduction
and Management provide instruments that will prevent consolidation work from
reconstructing the ill-protection that people are susceptible that is similar with disasters.
This also enables people to become more resilient during disaster and this also serves
as a protection in order to create and expand ideas to prevent the conditions in
elevating the issue of poverty. This also provides knowledge that are valuable enough
to engage people inside the community to become disaster-resilient. We can achieve
great things when we invest in disaster risk reduction and management through learning
more of it because it is essential for us to know everything behind it to save many lives.
2. What are the importance of disaster risk reduction and management awareness?
It clearly approaches us in conducting effectual disaster response while
lessening the risk and casualties that disasters may cause. First, this is to avoid any
casualties. Preparing for disasters should be an individual's obligation not only to
oneself, but also to its community. Also, disaster risk reduction and management are an
indicator on how the community and the country is prepared in any disaster. Structural
disaster, preparing the infrastructure, upgrading the establishments, and strengthening
homes especially the ones made of light materials indicate their integrity and resilience
against any disaster. Also, assessing the damages done to them could be the
community's manifestation of further disaster risk reduction and management. This
awareness could take us to be more responsible at all times whenever the is a disaster
coming or happening. It is very essential for us to know things especially with
emergencies like natural disasters in order for us to prevent damage.
3. What is the most important action a person can take to prepare for a natural disaster?
The most important action is to make a preparation for any disasters that may
happen. In acordance to Asmelash, L. & Ahmed, S. (2019) to their article entitled,
“Everything you need to know to prepare for a natural disaster”, these are the important
preparations that a person must do for disasters:
•Stock up on nonperishable food, water and medicine
•Tune into local radio and local TV stations
•Fill your car with gas
•Store important documents like passports, Social Security cards, etc., in a waterproof
container
•Have a first-aid kit ready
•Keep away from both standing water and floodwater
•Charge your gadgets
•Prepare your house
•Don't forget about animals
