critically threatened with extinction due to hunting and

habitat destruction.

Discovery:

The scientific history of the white-winged guan dates back

to 1876, the year in which the first specimen of the species

was collected by the Polish scientist Jean Stolzman on La

Condesa Island, in the delta of the Tumbes River.
