DETAIL M.R.I. OF RIGHT KNEE JOINT

TECHNIQUE:

❖ MR imaging of right knee joint was performed &high resolution PD, PDFS, T1W, PD T2W & T2*GRE with fat
saturation images were obtained in axial, sagittal & coronal planes.

MR STUDY REVEALS:

INTRINSIC LIGAMENTS:

❖ Mucoid degeneration of the anterior cruciate ligament seen.

❖ Mild posterior cruciate ligament sprain seen.

❖ Medial collateral ligament (MCL) & lateral collateral ligament (LCL) are normal.

MENISCI:

❖ Horizontal tear of posterior horn of medial meniscus associated with superior flap displaced medially
between the lateral aspect of medial femoral condyle and posterior cruciate ligament.

❖ Root tear with medial extrusion of medial meniscus seen.

❖ Lateral meniscus shows normal MR morphology & signal intensity.

❖ Visualised tendinous aspect of iliotibial band, biceps femoris tendon, semimembranosus & semitendinosus
appears normal.

OSSEOUS & SOFT TISSUSE ANALYSIS:

❖ Diffuse thinning of articular cartilage with complete loss at few places predominantly in the medial
tibio-femoral joint is seen associated with cortical irregularities, subchondral sclerosis with
significant osteophytes suggestive of degenerative osteoarthritic changes.

❖ Moderate joint effusion.

PHOGAT [CHC

❖ Insertional tendinopathy of the distal quadriceps tendon and proximal patellar tendon at its insertion
onto patellar seen.

❖ There is diffuse reduction in patello-femoral joint space associated with altered signal intensity with
fraying and fissuring in the patellar articular cartilage suggestive of chondromalacia patella grade
II.

❖ Sprain of medial patello-femoral ligament seen.

❖ Pes anserinus bursitis noted.

 Patella & hoffa’s fat pad are normal.

IMPRESSION: - Findings suggest possibility of:

➢ Mucoid degeneration of the anterior cruciate ligament
➢ Horizontal tear of posterior horn of medial meniscus associated with displaced
superior flap as described.
➢ Root tear with medial extrusion of medial meniscus.
➢ Chondromalacia Patella grade II.
➢ Degenerative osteoarthritic changes as described associated with insertional
tendinopathy of the distal quadriceps and proximal patellar tendon.
➢ Medial patello-femoral ligament sprain.
➢ Mild posterior cruciate ligament sprain.

ADVISED: - Clinical correlation & further investigations.
