Chapter 1
month had passed since I’d decimated the Ying family and Atheir
estate.
And a new faction had formed as well. My family, along with the rest
of the sects that had come up from the mortal world, had made a
group called simply The Alliance. We’d carved the Ying family
compound into five different structures, rebuilt within the grounds.
Each structure was headed by one of the powerful sects that had
come from the mortal world.
The mortal cultivators had injected a livelihood that the town had
been missing before. Hundreds of third- and fourth-ring cultivators
eagerly pushed their cultivation to the next level, using the immortal
mana to speed up their efforts. Mana beasts outside the city were
becoming scarce as the eager cultivators worked to fill their rings
and progress their capabilities.
For all the growth and excitement that was stirring in Murdock, I had
other plans.
“Isaac.” Wenxi came into the room, pushing her hair back as she
tossed aside a decorative piece that had been holding her hair in
place.
should marry her cousin. “Like this one. I probably have someone I
need to beat or kill.”
Wenxi rolled her eyes. “My cousin wouldn’t even be a match for you.
As much as I think that you need a show of force to make my family
take you seriously, he’s too weak to be of use.”
“How old are you, Isaac?” Wenxi caught me off guard with the
question.
I had to think about it for a moment. When you were immortal, you
sort of stopped keeping track of such things. “Forty-eight, soon to be
forty-nine. Why?”
Wenxi froze and slowly turned towards me. “You aren’t fifty yet?”
“No, are you?” I wondered where this was going.
“I’m forty-five, but I’m also not a fifth rank cultivator.” Wenxi pressed
two fingers to her forehead. “Fifth rank under fifty is a big deal, even
in Blueheavens. And the power of your bloodline is fantastic; we
need to find a stage for you to show off your power.”
“Great, let’s make sure they know you are coming back and that you
have a man. The young master type can never let that sort of thing
go. Although, if they are a little more mature, I’m sure they’ll come
for me directly.” I shrugged.
I would have been worried a while ago, but now I was more
confident in my abilities in the immortal world. I still needed to build
my strength, but I should be able to handle anyone coming for
Wenxi.
“Fine. I’ve already sent letters back home to let them know of my
return and introduce you. I’ve also done my best to explain the
situation in Murdock. A family member of mine should be here
tomorrow to replace me on this post, at least in the short term.”
a poison cultivator with the Yin Harmony Bird bloodline. Like the Yin
Harmony Bird of legend, she hunts other poison cultivators. Or at
least, that’s what she’s done for the last thirty years, carving the last
of the corrupt sect from our world.”
I just continued on. “But to answer your question, I don’t know how
many will join us. They can’t all be involved in your family, but I see
no reason for them to stay here and not come to Blueheavens. My
children will be assembling today, and I’ll hand off most of the tasks
for running The Alliance to them. Once that’s done, we can set off.”
“Yes?” I called.
“Ah.” A young woman pushed open the door. “Apologies, I didn’t
know you had company, Miss Su. But a carriage with your family seal
was seen at the north gate to the city.”
Wenxi cursed. “Of course they are here a day early. Care to come
welcome them with me, Isaac?” Wenxi stood and quickly checked
herself in a mirror before picking up the crown-like ornament and
putting it on her head.
“Oh, and please don’t kill them. I can’t leave Murdock unattended.”
I ghosted out after her, giving the servant a smirk and a thank you
for the notice. Despite all of Wenxi’s meticulous planning and ability
to run the house and her family business, she wasn’t much of a
people person.
When Wenxi stepped out of the manor, she looked over her shoulder
at me. “Carry me to the gate?”
Instead, it was the townspeople and the newly minted Alliance that
were building it from the ground up. It seemed to have bolstered the
people of the town, creating more excitement and life for the city.
“Thank you.” Wenxi got out of my arms and smoothed out her dress
to look out over the wall.
“Hmm. I wonder which one it could be.” I looked over all the rough
wood carts and carriages in line with it.
Wenxi rolled her eyes and didn’t bother responding. “At least
whoever it is didn’t push their way through the line. Shows that it is
at least someone mildly tolerant.”
“We should go reward that.” I jumped off the wall and landed among
the guards, tucking my hands inside my sleeves as I startled them.
“Go get that Su family carriage and have them come on in.
I pointed with my chin, not that she really needed it. “They are
trying to make a good impression, but they can’t enjoy being in line.
The carriage rolled out of the line and made its way to me. The
northern gates were far larger than the single-file entry and exit
allowed for. There was plenty of room for them to come forward.
The door slid open and an older woman who clearly resembled
Wenxi stepped out. “Hello, niece.”
“Someone needed to cover you, and this place sounds nice and
simple. It’s a vacation for me.” The older woman smiled softly.
I could feel the strength emanating from her. She was a peak fifth
rank cultivator. If she had an active bloodline, she’d have even been
a match for the Ying family patriarch, but Wenxi had said this
posting was a punishment.
“Sorry, I’m forgetting myself. Auntie, this is Isaac Hughes. Isaac, this
is my aunt, Tianxue Su.”
Tianxue’s eyes raked over me, picking me apart and trying to find a
flaw. “You defeated the old man of the Ying family on your own?”
“Yes, but if you need verification, feel free to ask around in town. It
wasn’t exactly a subtle fight.”
“I find it hard to believe the praises that Wenxi heaped upon you in
her letters.” Tianxue still tried to pick out flaws.
“Just the truth. My aunt and mother are very close. She sent you out
here?” Wenxi tried to divert the question.
“Of course.” Wenxi stepped back, gesturing for her aunt to follow
while two servants appeared to take the carriage and the three
horses. “It is a short walk. No doubt you are tired of sitting in that
old thing.”
“It isn’t so bad, and I’ll be loaning it to you for your own trip into
Blueheavens. The family is excited to meet Isaac.” She paused.
I knew that would lead to skepticism, so I gave her the truth. “My
family and I are from a lower-order world. Though, it would seem
we have potent bloodlines there as well. I believe your family had
another from my sect recently join its ranks.”
“After he learns that I killed his little brother, I doubt he’ll have any
love for me or mine.”
“This little brother also had the azure dragon bloodline?” Tianxue
sounded impressed.
Nodding, I told her the story of how I had competed with the
brother to lead the sect after Hendrick’s departure, and how his
brother had broken etiquette of a duel and attacked me after his
loss.
“That doesn’t surprise me in the least. Hendrick and his father are
slimy scum.”
Her sudden departure from polite speech made my eyebrows fly into
my hairline.
She smiled when she saw my reaction. “What? Ah, you didn’t realize
that the Su family is not so cohesive. Hendrick is no ally of mine, nor
is his betrothed.”
“Guess not.” Tianxue clicked her tongue. “You should really try it
before you commit. We all know you plan to bring Isaac here into
the fold of the Su family and use him to elevate yourself, while
giving him the opportunity he wants to fight Hendrick. It’s not hard
to see.”
I looked at Wenxi, wondering if she had put all of that in her letters.
“It’s not that we disapprove, but we’ve been at this game far longer,
Wenxi. So, I need to make sure you are set up for success.
Tell me, how much support does Isaac have behind him?”
“Kids?”
“Many,” I laughed. “A number of them are here in this world. We’ll
be handing our current affairs in Murdock over to them before we
leave.”
“He’s not even fifty, Auntie.” Wenxi understood what her aunt was
looking for. “Though, it sounds like he and his wives have been
together for quite some time.”
“Thirty years,” I replied quickly. “We all fought together in a war that
consumed our world when we were young. We pushed forward with
our lives together after that.”
Wenxi shook her head quickly. “No, not at all. She’s just a bigger
piece than I expected my mother to send. Our small division of the
Su family lacks much power behind us. My aunt leaving will expose
my mother greatly.”
I nodded, wondering just what Wenxi’s mother had planned for her
to make such a decision, but I had a feeling I’d find out soon
enough.
“Let me handle my family business, and then we’ll talk with your
aunt before leaving.” I kissed Wenxi’s cheek.
She held the spot for a moment, blushing as she nodded and
followed her aunt into the manor.
I turned and headed off to hand over the local leadership to my kids.
Chapter 2
ack at what was once the Ying family estate, mages from my Bworld
were sprawled throughout the courtyard. Most were meditating, but
others were practicing and training together in large groups.
We operated far more orderly and militant than the immortals I’d
seen so far. Here, they seemed more focused on the individual
instead of the group, but as immortals, they also had the benefit of
time.
And being in the immortal world hadn’t changed that for me. I still
felt a sense of urgency as I stepped across the threshold onto The
Alliance’s property, taking in all the mages working in the courtyard.
“Isaac.” Jonny’s round form stuck out among the others, who were
far more fit. His fourth rank mana beasts—a serpent of the dark
Unlike the city proper, this area was like my home. Mana beasts
roamed at the side of their mages doing work and training along
with them. The immortals of this world didn’t bind mana beasts like
my home.
“Perfectly fine. I just know you are getting ready to take off, so I
wanted to catch you.” He wrapped me in a massive hug. “I wanted
to let you know that I’m heading off too.”
“Really?” I was surprised, though it was the first he’d said anything
about leaving. “Come with us?”
But he shook his head. “No, if I travel with you, I’ll always be in your
shadow. Steve and I are heading over land towards a far-off city.
Wenxi told us about it—a city on a mountain that scrapes the top of
the clouds. Cloud City. We want to see it for ourselves.”
“Ha!” Jonny laughed loud enough to get the attention of the nearby
cultivators. “No. I don’t fear you, oh wise head of the Ferrymen.”
Giving my friend another hug, I patted him on the back and kept
moving. Steve and Jonny had been my friends since we were young.
Watching them go was like losing a bit of home, but I knew they had
their own journeys. I truly hoped our paths would cross again.
Pushing aside the pang of their leaving, I kept moving through the
estate. Within it were five large buildings. There had been more than
five sects that had come with us, but we’d collectively decided that
keeping to those sects would end up weakening us. We needed to
be united.
Those that practiced none of those, like Jonny, were extremely rare.
So we broke everybody out based on their preferred element to train
together. It had succeeded in creating its own unity among
residents, creating new bonds across sects and powerful training
groups.
“Father!”
“Mom was looking for you.” Ember tugged at my arm with the
strength of a third-ring mage.
“There you are.” Michelle was the first to look up from our overly
lively residence as we walked in.
Our many kids were present. The Hua sisters had given me one child
each. Kat and Thea had given me three children, and the rest had
given birth to two.
But that didn’t stop her from hanging around my family. She’d taken
on the role of master of Celina’s first born, Ryan. Our tomboyish
daughter had blossomed into a lovely young woman who, like her
mother, cultivated the poison arts of the Thousand Blossom Sect.
Vess, on the other hand, was an extension of Kat, one that was
entirely subservient to her and the family. She had been a broken
woman, whom Kat had been able to put back together using soul
magic. As a result, she’d committed her life to serving Kat.
were present. The third, Rob, was still back on the mortal world
running the Ferrymen.
“You’re leaving,” Tom said, sitting down across from me. He was my
second eldest and craved more responsibility.
“Yes, I am. But the question remains: who is leaving with me?”
“Me.” Ember practically jumped out of her seat before her older
sister slammed her back into her seat and told her no with a shake
of her head.
“We’ll look after the alliance here in Murdock. None of us can keep
up with you on your adventures,” she said.
“But you always said that struggles make great mages,” Ember piped
up, quickly dodging Catherine’s attempts to keep her quiet.
“All of us,” Michelle declared, looking over across the table and
confirming with each of the surrounding women. “Though, we are
splitting up. The Hua sisters are moving to the Orchid Pavilion in
Blueheavens. Celina and Kat will stay with you, and I will go with
Thea with the goal of establishing a residence there.”
Her eyes wandered to Rachel, and she paused, letting the girl speak
up for herself. She had gained quite the backbone since she had
followed me out of the Orchid Pavilion.
“You have enough status and power to have them, and I’m afraid
that, as your wife, I would only lower your status.” She looked down
at her hands in shame.
Since the event with Tracy, Rachel had been more assertive, but also
more conscious of her actions. “You’ll stay by my side as my fiancée.
Wenxi’s family will just have to adjust.”
“Good. Now let’s talk about lighter topics. How was everyone’s day?”
I relaxed into my seat, letting myself get lost in their stories.
***
The next day, my wives were gathering up by the north gate in front
of the carriage. I looked it over, wondering how they were all going
to fit.
Tianxue had joined to send us off, and she looked over my wives
and me with narrow eyes. “It seems you like to collect women.”
“Or perhaps he’s great enough to draw this many and more.”
“It sounds like your Su family has many of its own challenges,”
I knew that Wenxi’s mother and aunt were trying to back Wenxi’s
play, but they clearly had doubts on its success. They had yet to
Tianxue’s eyes popped wide open. “Ah. I see.” Her voice wavered
under the pressure of the power.
“Just as she is using you for power, you are using her to guide you
through the city’s politics.”
The look was gone in an instant, and Wenxi started moving. “Let’s
go. I don’t want to put on any more of a show. Auntie, take care of
the city. Don’t poke The Alliance, or I’ll have a very upset fiancé.”
I paused for a moment at the door, peering inside. It was far larger
on the inside than the outside. I smiled, suddenly far less worried
about the trip.
Kat turned back. “Daughter, how long were you under there?”
“You always say you want to grow strong enough to kick your old
man’s butt. Well, this lady here is a cultivation above my own.”
“Take good care of her,” Kat called as she pulled me into the
carriage.
But by the way that Ember was fixated on her, I didn’t think she’d
have much of an option. Either way, Ember would pester her for the
next week or so and stay out of trouble.
Once we were all in, the door closed, and Wenxi moved to a station,
setting our course. The carriage started rolling forward immediately
after.
I took in the interior. The inside of the carriage was the size of a
small two-bedroom home, including a kitchen and room for
lounging.
“With all your wives, the bed might be a squeeze, but I figured you’d
make it work. Rachel can, of course, stay in my room.” Wenxi
watched me as I moved around, taking in the space.
“We’ll be fine. I’m more worried about you. Are you going to be okay
sharing this small space with all of us?” I asked.
With that, I decided there was enough space for them, so I released
my mana beasts.
Aurora, Mei, Quinn, and Lumi popped into the space around me.
It wasn’t even a second before Mei flitted between the rooms and
jumped on Wenxi’s bed, smacking her now five fox tails around and
covering the bed in fine black hairs.
I gave Wenxi my best smile. “Mei, that’s not our bed. Our bed is that
one.” I pointed to the other room.
The fox girl jumped off the bed to go tackle the pillows on the other
bed and flail.
Quinn stood still, looking around curiously. “Is this a spatial artifact?”
“Yes, it is,” Wenxi said, sounding impressed. “My family only has a
few of these. I am surprised they sent it for me.”
“Your mother is trying to make a statement,” I guessed.
Mei perked up and wandered back out of the bedroom, still clutching
a pillow to her chest. She sat down on a couch and beckoned me
over to lie in her lap.
I took one step before Aurora sailed past me, taking the offered spot
as she plopped down on Mei’s lap. Mei frowned but knew better than
to move a settled Aurora as the Kunpeng rapidly fell asleep.
“The city is… far larger than you probably imagine,” she started, “It
is tiered; the top tier of the city is owned entirely by the Feng family.
They are royalty among the ancient families. Their bloodline comes
from the phoenix.”
“Yet,” I jumped in, wanting to defend her, “growth and the next
stage of cultivation is always on the horizon.”
“En.” She made a determined noise and nodded her head. “There
are smaller ancient families among the second ring, but the whole
area is ancient families and their close associates. The outer ring is
the largest. It houses everyone else.”
I was starting to understand how our arrival would need to play out.
My wives seemed to agree.
“It’s also in the middle ring of the city,” Wenxi said. “The Orchid
Pavilion is a strange entity in that it has ingratiated itself with many
ancient families.”
I thought back to Madam Orchid and my time serving in the Pavilion
back in Murdock. It seemed she valued relationships, and there were
rumors of it being a selection ground for young masters.
Maybe I’d have to pay Madam Orchid another visit. So far, she’d
been a strong ally. She’d trained two of my wives, and she knew my
mother. While she still had held back information, presumably to not
invalidate one of my mother’s predictions, she hadn’t given me
cause to distrust her.
I would have felt better if I knew what my mother had promised her.
“But we haven’t even been on the road for more than an hour,”
Chapter 3
They had clearly understood our own group's power level before
approaching.
“Silence. Hand over Wenxi Su.” One of the fifth rank immortals
stepped forward to speak. He had a fox demon mask over his face.
“No can do, Foxy. I’m afraid that would make my journey rather
unproductive.” I shook my head casually. There was no fear from
this group.
bloodlines.
The mask hid Foxy’s expression, but I liked to imagine pure shock
from the way his head moved back. “What? You realize you are
completely outnumbered and outpowered? Don’t be a fool. Just
hand her over.”
“Hey, Wenxi. Some guy hired by your family is out here. Can I kill
them all, or should I leave some alive?” I called back into the
carriage, but I knew all the girls were at the door listening.
Wenxi’s head of brown hair popped out the door. “They were likely
sent to their deaths. I can confirm that they haven’t identified
themselves and wore masks. You had no idea they were from my
family when you attacked valiantly to protect me.”
I gave her a small salute before turning back to the cultivators
arrayed before me.
More than a few of the fourth rank immortals were taking steps
back. Clearly, everyone was worried by my casual disinterest in their
strength. They were starting to second guess themselves.
Behind Foxy’s mask, I could see his eyes open wide as he got a
fresh idea of my actual strength.
Foxy’s mask cracked, and I saw his face for just a moment before
my hand squeezed further and crushed his skull like a rotten melon.
The other fifth rank cultivator had been hanging back, almost as if
he’d been content to watch.
While I moved for him, the other fourth rank immortals rushed
Wenxi. I didn’t move to go back to protect her, knowing my wives
would take care of that.
If I were a normal cultivator, it might have even hurt, but the gold
dragon bloodline coursing through me made my body unbelievably
tough. I caught his heel, my arms and hand straining under the
power.
“What are you?” the man shrieked before I wrenched his ankle,
picking him up and slamming him down into the dirt.
I frowned. I didn’t want to kill him, but he was certainly doing his
best to kill me.
One second she was there, and the next, with a flash of blue and
white light, she was gone.
Lightning flew into the air, charging deeper into the forest. I rushed
forward to catch up to them.
When I finally did, Lumi had the man pinned against a tree, letting
loose a series of shocks to keep him from activating any techniques
or escaping.
“I think we should all just make our way back to the carriage, don’t
you?” I asked the cultivator. His mask was gone, shattered in the
fight. His face had a startling resemblance to Wenxi.
I wondered if her whole family looked that much alike. From what
Wenxi had said, it seemed there were many branches and divisions
among them.
“Please, don’t hurt me. The family won’t forgive you.” He tried to
crawl away.
“Right. I’m going to let you walk away after trying to kill me and
take Wenxi. That makes sense.” I picked him up by his lapel and
dusted him off.
The second he started to speak, I hit him in the side of the face hard
enough to knock out a few teeth and bounce his head off the
ground.
“No more games.” Sometimes the young master types were just too
much.
I picked up the dazed man and threw him over my shoulder, heading
back for the carriage.
Back at the carriage, the remaining cultivators were neatly tied up,
with Michelle and Thea standing over them.
“Good. You brought back the leader.” Kat smiled, her eyes shining a
multitude of colors as she looked at me.
“Give it a whirl.” I set down the fifth rank immortal and peeled open
his eyes for her.
“Tuomo sent me. I came with the orders to capture Wenxi and hold
her hostage until I was told to release her. We expected to hold her
at least a few months,” he blurted out information.
“Nobodies.”
Purple feathers appeared in her hand before darting into the chest of
all the other men present. Bound, they had no way to resist.
They squirmed as their chests bubbled and melted under the fierce
poison of the Yin Harmony Bird.
Even though I knew she’d never hurt me, sometimes Celina scared
me a little.
We focused back on the man Kat had in a trance. I was sure that, if
there was information to be gleaned, it would be from him alone.
“Rumors are that you are full of potential. This is nothing other than
a plan to reduce his risk for the future.”
Wenxi sighed, seeming to realize something. “It isn’t even about you
or me. This is all about Tuomo trying to isolate my mother. I
thought… never mind.”
Wenxi paused before approaching the man. “Has my uncle had you
perform any other missions related to my mother lately?” Wenxi
asked.
Though it wouldn’t solve her mood, I turned her away and nodded
to Kat.
The immortal’s eyes rolled back into his head, and he fell to the
ground, dead. Kat turned away from him, seeming most concerned
about the bit of dust that had gotten on her clothing.
“It’ll be okay, Wenxi. Once we get to your home, I’ll give you my full
support with your family.”
She sighed but nodded. “I had no idea that my mother was under
such pressure. She may have sent Tianxue away for a vacation. At
least there are no family politics in Murdock.”
I nodded. My wives cleaned off the road, hiding any sign of an
attack, and gathered back in the carriage as it started moving again.
“It would seem that your family will not be so welcoming of me.” I
sat back down in the carriage. “Should we expect more ambushes?”
“No. Tuomo has no reason to believe they’d fail. But once we arrive
in Blueheavens, I expect we’ll see problems. If not from somewhere
else, we for sure will have issues with Tuomo once he can’t get
ahold of his bastard.” Wenxi sighed. “I’m sorry; you can still back
out.”
Michelle leaned against the kitchen counter. “This is just how the
world works—competition between groups and within them. We are
no strangers to this. Though our lives have been peaceful lately, they
Kat smiled along with Celina. “Yes, we’ll stay with Isaac while he
pushes forward. The rest of you will build a stable foundation for us
in the city. The Ying family’s fortune should be a nice starting point.”
The Hua sisters looked at each other. “We have all his assets.
Working with Madam Orchid, we’ll figure out a mercantile angle for
our family to take over.”
Wenxi just sighed and shook her head. “I’m not sure where I’ll fit in
all of this, but I’m glad that Isaac’s family comes with a full suite of
help.”
Apparently, that was the signal for Celina and Thea. They took both
my arms and pulled me towards the bedroom.
Celina closed the door behind me and jumped into my arms, placing
sweet kisses along my neck. Each soft kiss poisoned me with an
aphrodisiac. We’d never needed it, but it made me wild for her, and
she knew it.
Thea came around my back and kissed the other side of my neck.
“I’ll let her tire you out. Then, when you are soft and gentle, you can
be with me.”
I grabbed Celina and threw her on the bed; she landed with a thump
that I knew the other room was going to hear.
“Isaac. Rip my clothes off,” she moaned, stretching out on the bed
and biting her lip.
Her belt was undone. Reaching down, I avoided tearing them, but I
manhandled her out of them, knowing she wanted some roughness.
But the pantyhose she wore underneath were going to be a different
story.
She was as juicy as a ripe pear, her fluids dripping out and soaking
my balls.
I smiled, knowing Celina wasn’t quite ready yet. But I was enjoying
teasing her with it.
Thea’s head lifted, and her eyes opened, seeing me watching her.
Smirking, she undid the wrap around her chest as I watched, freeing
her two enormous peaks. She hefted both of them and lifted one to
her mouth, raking her teeth along the nipple, instantly making it
hard.
I watched as her pink tongue snaked out and licked her own nipple,
all while keeping eye contact with me.
She mumbled something into Thea’s crotch that was completely lost
on me. But, if I had to guess from our previous times, she’d said
something like ‘pound me harder’.
A moment later, her body spasmed and squirted on me. But, despite
her release, the little sexpot was still thrusting her ass back into me.
I was happy to oblige, wanting my own release.
Each time I bottomed out in her, she’d squeeze so that the way out
dragged with friction. Then she would relax so I could push back in.
While she moved, she started cultivating, building up mana and
feeding it to me with each thrust. I followed suit, letting her mana
flow into me and nurture my body. I let her Yin Harmony Bird
bloodline activate so that the two of us were in sync.
“That was lovely. Let me absorb this.” She mumbled as she rolled
over. She didn’t seem bothered in the least about the mess as she
closed her eyes, her mana cycling through her body rapidly as she
sought to absorb the mana I had poured into her.
After living in the small carriage for two weeks, we had moved past
a lot of formalities. After all, the carriage wasn’t soundproof. Seeing
me at the bottom of the pile of naked women only caused her to
raise an eyebrow.
“Blueheavens is within sight. I thought you might like to see the city
before we enter. And maybe clean up a bit.” She smirked as she
turned to leave.
