Abstract
ABSTRACT
Today we are living in the world surrounded by gadgets, technologies, which
helps us to connect, communicate and collaborate with other people.
Technologies has been playing a vital role in our life by making our work and
life easier. If you miss someone you call or text rather than meeting in person
or via sending letters. But we forgot that everything consists of negative and
positive points of view. If we take an example of texting there are advantages
like it’s easy to use, quick and immediate, people read them and respond, it
could be via internet connection as well as not and its widely used as well.
Whereas, the disadvantages and misunderstanding, impersonal, sleep
problems, socially disruptive but mainly it effects the abbreviations, misuse of
homophones such as ‘there’ and ‘their’, it cannot accurately convey tone,
emotion, facial expressions, gestures, oral speech and face-to-face
conversations. So it all talks about the advantages, disadvantages and how its
affecting our communication in person due to our easier lifestyle that we live
today.
“TEXT MESSAGING AND HOW IT AFFECTS FACE-TO-FACE
COMMUNICATION”

Text messaging or texting is the act of composing and sending electronic

messages, typically consisting of alphabetic and numeric characters, between
two or more users of mobile devices, desktop/laptops, or other type of
compatible computer. Text messages may be sent over cellular network, or
may also be sent via an internet connection. The term originally referred to
messages sent using the Short Message Service (SMS). It has grown beyond
alphanumeric text to include multimedia messages using the Multimedia
Messaging Service (MMS) containing digital images, videos, and sound content,
as well as ideograms known as emoji (happy faces, sad faces, and other icons).
Text messages are used for personal, family, business and social purposes.
Governmental and non-governmental organizations use text messaging for
communication between colleagues. Texting is a quick and easy way to
communicate with friends, family and colleagues, including in a context where
a call would be impolite or inappropriate (e.g., calling very late at night or
when one knows the other person is busy with family or work activities). There
are benefits of texting like it is “quick and immediate”, where you type your
message, send it, and most of the time the recipient receives the message
within seconds. Its “inexpensive” and you don’t need an expensive smartphone
to text; just a basic cell phone will do. The cost of texting has fallen over time,
and unlimited texting is included with many cellphones plans nowadays. Its
“easy to use”, “people read them and response”, its “widely used”, you can
“text with or without cellular data or internet connection”, it “works best for
certain types of information” like calling someone up on the phone with a
difficult question or information can put them on the spot and create
awkwardness. So, texting gives people time to considered response. It offers
“multiple recipients” where the text don’t just have to be sent to one person;
you can send texts to multiple people.
