Friction Model
What is friction?
Friction is the force resisting the relative
motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and
material elements sliding against each other.
Objective
Types of The objective of this
science project is to create
Friction: a working model to show
How friction works.
Static Friction
Sliding Friction Description
In this project, we will
Rolling Friction
build a simple project to
Fluid Friction show the types of friction.
Static Friction
In static friction, the frictional force resists force that
is applied to an object, and the object remains at rest
until the force of static friction is overcome.

Sliding Friction
Sliding friction, also known as kinetic friction, refers
to the resistance that occurs when two surfaces slide
against each other, making it more difficult for one
body to slide over another.
Fluid Friction
Fluid friction is the force that opposes motion in
between or within this fluid.

Rolling Friction
Rolling friction is the frictional force that occurs
when one object rolls on another.

Materials
Colored papers Toothpick
Yarn/Threads Cardboard
Glue Gun Markers
Scissors Cylinder items
Cutters Wheels
Steps
1. Make a ramp using cardboards, cutters, and glue.
2. Make a car using buffalo paper, wheels, and glue.
3. Make 4 Rectangles using 2 pieces of cardboard
glued together.
4. Use one of the cylinders with a toothpick to hold
it above the ramp for the yarn.
5. Attach them all together for Rolling friction.
6. Make a similar one but not with wheels to show
sliding friction.
Conclusion
In Conclusion, friction is the force felt between two
surfaces when one attempts to slide against the
other — whether or not they are moving. It always
acts to slow things down.
There are different factors for friction:
(I) The adhesion between body surfaces
(ii) Roughness of the surface
(iii) Deformation of bodies
