Prerequisite Knowledge: Basic computer and internet skills, how to research a topic
Approximate time: 2 hours
Objectives:
O Students should become Iamiliar with using technology, such as Glogster, to
create interactive projects.
O Students should become Iamiliar with the basics oI the rainIorest animal oI their
choice.
O Students should learn how to gather inIormation correctly Irom the internet in
addition to books.
O Students should remain on task and not use the internet incorrectly.

O Describe and compare characteristics oI living things in relationship to their
environments
O IdentiIy physical Ieatures oI plants and animals that help them live in diIIerent
environments (e.g., specialized teeth Ior eating certain Ioods, thorns Ior

Procedures:

Opening:
Tell students that we will be exploring the rainIorest.
Ask students
O Where is the rainIorest?
O What types oI animals live in the rainIorest?
O What type oI environment is the rainIorest?

Have students pair up into groups oI two.
Brainstorm diIIerent animals that live in the rainIorest. Write these animals on the board
Each group will select a diIIerent animal. Check oII the animal Irom the board as each
group chooses.

Tell students they will be creating a virtual poster on a website called 'glogster.
Remind students that iI you catch them oII task you will deduct 2 points Irom their Iinal
grade.

Implementation:
Go to computer lab and have students leave the computers oII.
Tell them that they will be required to answer the Iollowing in their project.
Write them on the board (iI there is one) and give the students a handout with the
questions.
O What type oI Iood does the animal eat?
O In what country does the animal live?
O What habitat does the animal live in?
O Does the animal live in groups or alone?
O How many babies do the animals have each reproductive cycle?
O How much does the animal weight?
O What level oI the rainIorest does the animal live in?
O Poster must include one picture.
O Poster must include one video.

Tell students to open 'www.edu.glogster.com.
Click on 'Try to create yours
Have students click on 'wall and try to change the background color.
Ask students iI they have any questions about changing the background color.
Have students click on 'graphics to try out creating text boxes.
Ask students iI they have any questions about adding a text box.
Have students click on 'images and try to upload pictures.
Ask students iI they have any questions about uploading a picture.
Have students click on 'video and try to upload a video using a link provided on
worksheet.
Have students practice dragging their images by clicking on the boxes and images.
Ask iI they have any questions overall.

Show them an example oI a glog.

Remind students to cite their sources. II a student does not know what 'cite means
explain that they must include where they Iound their inIormation on the glog.

Let students try to create their own 'glogster
Continually check iI the students are on task.
Check each group individually Ior their progress and make suggestions.
This may take more than one period in the library.

When Iinished, walk around to each group and save their project.
Copy down each url onto a sheet oI paper that you will keep.

Presentations/Discussion/Assessment
Remind students oI what needs to be included on the poster

Split the week up so that three to Iour groups are presenting each day.
