Finding the Perfect Road Bike


USING HYPERLINKS AND ACTION BUTTONS

GETTING STARTED
 Open the file SC_PPT16_6b_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download
from the SAM website.

 Save the file as SC_PPT16_6b_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1”


to a “2”.

o If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do
not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.

 To complete this Project, you will also need to download and save the following
support files from the SAM website:

o Support_SC_PPT16_6b_Gear.png

o Support_SC_PPT16_6b_Selection.pptx

o Support_SC_PPT16_6b_Invention.docx

 With the file SC_PPT16_6b_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that


your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.

o If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and
download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS
1. Cyclex Bicycles specializes in helping people select the perfect bicycle. As a
member of the marketing team, you have been asked to prepare a slide show
summarizing how Cyclex helps customers find the right bike. You complete the
presentation by creating bulleted lists and links for information about bicycles.

On Slide 1 (“FINDING THE PERFECT ROAD BIKE”), align the pictures of the
gears as follows:

a. Select Align to Slide from the Align menu, if necessary, and then align
the pictures to the bottom.

b. Select Align Selected Objects from the Align menu, and then distribute
the pictures horizontally.

2. On Slide 2 (“SELECTING A ROAD BIKE”), create a hyperlink from the picture of


the bicycle to Slide 6 (“BICYCLE TRIVIA”).

3. On Slide 3 (“THE BICYCLE SELECTION PROCESS”), change the bullets to the


picture Support_SC_PPT16_6b_Gear.png, available for download from the
SAM website.

4. With Slide 3 still displaying, create a hyperlink from the text “Needs and
Preferences Checklist” to the PowerPoint file

SAM website.

5. On Slide 4 (“BICYCLE FIT CONSIDERATIONS”), change the bullets to numbers.

6. On Slide 5 (“BICYCLING APPLICATIONS”), modify the Level 1 square bullets as


follows:

a. Change the size to 95% of text.

b. Change the color to Blue-Gray, Accent 4, Darker 50% (8th column, 6th
row of the Theme Colors palette).

7. On Slide 6 (“BICYCLE TRIVIA”), create a hyperlink from the text “Important


dates” in first bullet to Slide 7 (“IMPORTANT DATES – QUESTION”).

8. On Slide 7 (“IMPORTANT DATES – QUESTION”), change the line spacing of the


text “When was the first bicycle invented?” to 1.5.

9. With Slide 7 still displaying, edit the Action Button: Go Forward or Next
action button so it creates a hyperlink to the next slide.

10. On Slide 8 (“IMPORTANT DATES – ANSWER”), format the home button in the
lower-right corner of the slide as follows:

a. Change the size to a height of 0.7" and a width of 0.7".

b. Change the shape style to Colored Outline – Plum, Accent 2 (3rd


column, 1st row of the Theme Styles gallery).

c. Display guides.

d. Drag the horizontal guide to 3.42" below the center.

e. Drag the vertical guide to 6.04" to the right of the center.

f. Drag the home button so its right side and bottom touch the intersection
of the horizontal and vertical guides, as shown in Figure 1 on the next
page.

g. Hide guides.

11. With Slide 8 still displaying, format the question mark action button as follows:

a. Create a hyperlink from the question mark action button to open the
Word file Support_SC_PPT16_6b_Invention.docx, available for
download from the SAM website.

b. Change the shape style to Colored Outline – Plum, Accent 2 (3rd


column, 1st row of the Theme Styles gallery).

12. In Slide Sorter view, hide Slide 9 and Slide 10.

In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following
page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and then exit PowerPoint. Follow the
directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
