Purpose of ESP
-reading and listening should be based on authentically long text
-if you develop a text do not simplify it
-teach students how to handle difficult texts
-focus more on exposure and extracting meaningful information than on language points
-teacher who teach content should inspire the development of instructional methods.
Factors Considered in ESP
-environmental situation (gathering the necessary information about the situation)
-learners lack (identifying the gap between the present situation and professional information about the
learners)
-language information about the learners (evaluating and diagnosing the learners)
-language learning needs (effective ways of learning the skills)
-learning needs from the course (aware of the learners wants and need skill when targeting a given
course)
