PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 Introduction

This document refers to the Interior / Exterior / Decorative / Functional and Enhancement lighting
to the Marasi Riverside Residential Tower. Please refer to the LIGHTALLLANCE drawings and
schedules for detailed information of all lighting elements in these areas. Please also refer to the
MEP Engineers reports, drawings and schedules for lighting to all other areas out with the
LIGHTALLIANCE scope.

For more specific recommendations please refer to the manufacturer’s details for installation,
application, operation, handling, cleaning and disposal details.

A schedule of luminaires and schedule of logical control groupings shall be provided at detailed
design stage, and should be read in conjunction with the relevant design team drawings, details
and specifications including:

The Contractor shall include for the supply and installation of all lighting types as identified on the
drawings. LIGHTALLIANCE documentation includes full specification of the Architectural fittings
and fixtures and have advised the Interior Designer of the technical requirements to be included
within the FF&E decorative lighting fixture specification.

1.2 Standards of Compliance

A. All equipment supplied shall comply with the relevant BS and IEC requirements, and be
capable of installation in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions, the current
edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations, Green Building Code and all other applicable
statutory and local authority requirements.

B. Notwithstanding the above, the following British Standard (and any which supersede this)
should be checked for compliance: BS EN 60598 Luminaires (to verify the construction
quality and safety of equipment), BS 5266 Part 7/EN 1838 Emergency Lighting (where
relevant – check MEP Engineers information for details of emergency lighting system
requirements).

C. The cost of obtaining any necessary approvals and testing shall be included in any tender
price, detailed as a separate item.

D. All lighting equipment must be installed by a qualified electrician and in accordance with
the manufacturer’s instructions.

1.3 Luminaires

A schedule of luminaires is enclosed and should be read in conjunction with the lighting
consultants relevant drawings.

A. All luminaires have been selected to provide high quality light, through efficient optical
systems which give good control of the distribution of light. In the selection of luminaires
we have considered not only the performance of the unit and the lit effect but also the
appearance of the fixture in the context of the space.

B. Equipment selected as a standard item from a particular manufacturer’s range has been
specified with a view to providing the correct performance, optics, maintenance, quality,
aesthetics and control.

C. Should alternative equipment be offered, full technical and photometric data shall be
supplied to the lighting Consultant, along with calculations showing the performance of
the installation in time to enable its accurate assessment.

D. No substitutions or alterations to the specifications will be permitted without the written


approval of the client’s representative / lighting consultant.

E. If any variants of standard luminaires are required, these shall be developed by the
manufacturer of the standard luminaire, unless otherwise specifically stated, and shall be
manufactured to the same quality as the equivalent standard luminaire.

F. Any bespoke products must be tested to ensure that they comply with all relevant safety
standards , thermal operating conditions are within the constraints and tolerances of the
technology specified. All enclosures must be robust and suitable for the purpose.

G. All lighting equipment shall be made from durable materials, must be resistant to
mechanical damage, easy to replace, remove and maintain. Any plastics used in the
luminaire shall be light and UV stable and shall be suitable for the application.

H. Working drawings of proposed bespoke elements or variants, dimensioned in mm, shall be


supplied to LIGHTALLIANCE for approval prior to fabrication. Working drawings of any
proposed variants must be supplied and approved by the Architects and Lighting
Consultant in advance of any fabrication.

I. The manufacturers shall remain responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant
standards, the accuracy of the information shown on his drawings at all times and for
ensuring that the equipment shown fulfils the requirements of the specification.

J. Diffusers may be toughened glass, polycarbonate or acrylic depending on the requirements


to protection from impact. Louvres, snoots and cowls shall be made from anodized
aluminum. The external finish of any shields/cowls/ snoots and louvre frames should match
the colour and finish of the luminaire housing.

K. Glass lenses shall be toughened and where within reach of the public shall employ cool
touch technology to reduce the maximum surface temperature of the glass.

L. Colour filters should be durable heat and UV resistant and placed within proprietary lens
holders such that they are protected by the outer clear lens of the luminaire.

M. All luminaire shall be specified and mounted so as to minimize glare. Where glare proves
to be a problem, baffles, cowls, snoots or other accessories and devices shall be employed.

N. All adjustable angle and adjustable focus luminaires shall be specified with a full lock off
device, or similar, such that the angle of tilt and focus is maintained after final focusing and
when luminaires may be susceptible to movement during maintenance.

O. The final location of each luminaire and its integration within the building architecture (or
surrounding exterior/ landscape, where relevant) shall be as detailed on the construction
issue drawings, and must be confirmed with the architects and lighting consultant in
advance of any installation works.

1.4 Lamps and Light Sources

A. All lamps or light source types have been specified in the project luminaire and control
schedules (The majority of lighting equipment is specified with LED source technology
although selected items of equipment have been specified with conventional removable
lamps).

B. Alternative light sources may only be substituted if full technical data is first supplied to
enable their accurate assessment in terms of colour rendering, colour temperature, light
distribution, light output, driver characteristics, dimming range and life expectancy.

C. Any alternative sources proposed must deliver MORE luminaire lumens not less, and should
meet or exceed all other characteristics specified.

1.5 Control Gear (Ballasts / Drivers / Transformers)

A. Light sources ballasts, and drivers when applicable shall be from the same Manufacturer to
ensure proper and consistent performance.

B. All necessary control gear (drivers /transformers) shall be completely concealed from view
and mounted within or nearby the luminaire unless highlighted as being located remotely.
All necessary control gear, drivers and transformers shall be mounted as described in the
specification documents, manufacturer’s installation instructions and on the MEP
Consultants electrical drawings and descriptions.

C. All such gear shall be of good quality construction, shall comply with all relevant statutory
regulations, shall be compatible with the light source specified and the control method
stated, and shall be mounted and wired in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions.
The manufacturers shall remain responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant
standards and Contractors should contain written statements of compliance and
compatibility from the relevant manufacturers.

D. The Electrical Installer shall also liaise with the selected lighting control system
manufacturer to ensure compatibility between control gear and the control system. He
shall also check and confirm all necessary data regarding electrical performance of any
lighting control systems (i.e. circuit load of luminaires/inrush currents, to enable
dimmers/contactors be sized correctly).

All equipment shall be protected from any negative impact such as mains borne interference.

1.6 Lighting Control Systems

A site wide central control system shall be specified by the project M&E consultants with guidance
from LIGHTALLIANCE. Please refer to their specifications for details descriptions of system
requirements. This section relates to the performance requirements of the architectural lighting.

A. Functional Approach

The Lighting Control System for the project must provide control to all lighting equipment using
digital dimmable control signaling. The operation of the system is based around the established
concept of
Automated Control and Scene Setting, with scenes recalled as required by a number of inputs and
criteria as per the end users requirements

The different lighting loads types and their control methods are detailed in the Logical Control
Group Schedule within this document.

B. Detailed Requirements

Possible inputs include automated time clock operations, central and central remote control panels
or touchscreens, handheld remote controls, daylight monitoring photocells, Occupancy sensors,
serial data or volt-free contact interfaces to other systems, and others.

1. The system should allow for the grouping of physical circuits and virtual circuits into
logical channels/zones. (Suggested control groups have been indicated in the Logical
Control Group Schedule).

2. The equipment used to deliver this control should be capable of distributed installation
around the building, with units interconnected with data wiring to form a single central
system from which all lighting elements can be controlled.

3. The loss of any single piece of equipment or single interconnection should not cause
the entire system to cease functioning – loss of functionality should be restricted to
local circuits/luminaires directly connected to the failed equipment.

4. The system should not require a “head-end” workstation.

5. All logical groups, lighting scenes, control panel functions, etc. should be configurable
through a standard PC/Laptop based software package.

C. System Descriptions

1. Lighting equipment of the same type shall be controlled on a common circuit.

2. All luminaires provided throughout shall contain digital dimmable control gear which
will be compatible with and individually controllable through the main lighting control
system.

3. The contractor must ensure that all lighting equipment proposed and procured will be
compatible with the control system.

4. All individual lighting layers shall be independently controllable and switched in layers
to suit the requirement of the space. Lighting layers can be individually controlled or
grouped together.

5. Preset lighting scenes shall be commissioned for selected areas to suit the intended
use for each area. Lighting scenes shall be programmed for each zone which can be
activated by time clock. Lighting levels shall be able to be varied to suit the time of day,
year, occasion, occupancy or availability of natural light. Lighting scenes shall be
adapted/modified to suit the desired use of each space: i.e. early morning, Morning,
Late Afternoon, Dusk, Evening, Late Evening, Security and Maintenance. This can help
to create.

The correct visual appearance will assist with energy saving too.

D. Time and Date Operations

1. The system shall provide time and date functions, including astronomical time clock,
through a dedicated time-clock unit or through functionality provided in a touch-
screen or other system component. This component shall be capable of automatically
recalling any given scene in any given area at any given time, with differentiation
between different days of the week, and weeks of the year. It should also be possible
for the end user to suspend timed operations by manual override and programmed in
calendar events to activate scenes or effects. The lighting control system shall
automatically adjust for daylight saving time.

E. Commissioning and Contractor Support

1. The Lighting Controls System supplier shall allow for technician/engineer attendance
on site in order to commission the system to the client and contractor’s satisfaction.

2. The supplier’s documentation should clearly indicate the expected scopes of work of
both the contractor and the supplier in this process and the allowance of
engineer/technician time included in the scope of works. Remote/telephone/email
support shall also be provided to the contractor during installation if required.

F. Programming Support

1. The supplier shall allow for technician/engineer attendance on site to assist the lighting
designers and facility managers in creating lighting scenes, (during the hours of
daylight and darkness), allocating functions to control panel buttons, etc. The lighting
shall be controllable from a central point.

2. The contractor must allow for commissioning to be tailored to the exact requirements
of the site. Following the completion of commissioning for all areas, the supplier shall
provide the designers with the system configuration data on a suitable storage
medium.

3. The control system supplier shall allow for the grouping of any number of physical
circuits to a single logical group. This group must be presented as a single channel
during the scene programming process. This function shall be carried out using the
configuration software and shall not require physical access to any particular unit. It
shall be possible to later change these groupings by the same method.

4. The supplier shall also allow for technician/engineer attendance on site of not less than
3 days to co-ordinate and test interfaces with other systems.

G. Client / Facilities Management Support

1. All equipment provided by the supplier shall be guaranteed for a period of not less
than 12 months from the completion of commissioning. During the guarantee period,
a repair or replacement service shall be provided for all items of equipment supplied,
within a maximum of 24 hours from notification of a fault.

2. Remote support shall be made available to the client/FM on an on-going basis.
