redefined storytelling through its innovative use of technology and unparalleled creativity.

2. Pixar's journey began in the late 20th century when it introduced the world to
groundbreaking computer-animated films. The studio's commitment to pushing the

boundaries of what was thought possible in animation was evident from its first feature film,
"Toy Story," released in 1995. This marked the beginning of a new era in filmmaking, where
pixels and algorithms became as essential as pencils and paintbrushes.
3. As technology advanced, so did Pixar's ability to create visually stunning and emotionally
resonant stories. The studio's dedication to meticulous detail and realism in animation has set
a benchmark for the industry. Grade 12 students studying animation can appreciate the
complex interplay of art and technology in Pixar's films, gaining insights into the
convergence of creativity and cutting-edge tools.

4. Moreover, Pixar's storytelling prowess goes beyond technical achievements. The narratives
woven by the studio delve into profound themes, addressing the human condition in ways that
resonate universally. Films like "Finding Nemo," "Up," and "Inside Out" explore complex
emotions, relationships, and personal growth, offering a rich tapestry for students to analyse
and dissect. For Grade 12 students honing their critical thinking skills, Pixar's films serve as a
treasure trove of narrative complexities and character developments.

5. In the modern age, where digital literacy is paramount, Pixar's impact extends beyond the
silver screen. The studio's success has influenced educational approaches, inspiring a new
generation of animators and storytellers. Grade 12 students exploring animation as a career
path can draw inspiration from Pixar's collaborative and innovative work culture. The studio's
emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, where artists and technologists work together,
mirrors the demands of the contemporary creative industry.

6. Furthermore, Pixar's ability to create characters that transcend cultural and linguistic
barriers provides Grade 12 students with a global perspective on storytelling. As the
world becomes increasingly interconnected, understanding how to communicate universally
resonant narratives becomes a crucial skill. Pixar's films, with their ability to appeal to diverse
audiences, offer valuable lessons for students aspiring to create content with a global impact.

7. In the realm of animation, where storytelling and technology converge, Pixar remains a
guiding light. The studio's commitment to pushing boundaries, coupled with its ability to craft
narratives that resonate deeply, elevates it to a pivotal position in the curriculum of Grade 12
students studying animation. As these students prepare to enter a dynamic and evolving
industry, the lessons drawn from Pixar's legacy will undoubtedly shape the next wave of

Passage 2

Read the following passage carefully

1. The bottled water market is a symbol of a new lifestyle and health-consciousness rising in
India. While a substantial portion of the population struggles to get safe drinking water, a new
generation, particularly in metropolitan areas, is becoming accustomed to paying high costs
for bottled water. The bottled water market has grown by 40-45 percent since 2018.

2. Higher disposable income, increasing taste for hygiene, improved price, easier availability
of packaged drinking water, and a lack of safe drinking water are driving the demand for
bottled water. India is among the top ten bottled water users in the world. According to a
study conducted by the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), India is the world's largest
consumer of packaged drinking water, with an estimated annual consumption of 22 billion
litres.

3. Based on products, the market is segmented into flavoured water, purified water, mineral
water, sparkling water, and others. Fig. 1 displays the preferences.

4. The surge in demand for bottled water has also raised concerns about the environmental
impact of plastic waste. A recent report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)

6 | HERITAGE XPERIENTIAL LEARNING SCHOOL, GURGAON [2024-25 | CLASS XII | ENGLISH]

estimated that India generates over 26,000 tons of plastic waste per day, with a significant
portion coming from discarded water bottles. A separate study conducted by the Tata Institute
of Social Sciences found that the growth of the bottled water industry has had negative
impacts on local communities, particularly in rural areas. The study found that groundwater
sources were being depleted due to over-extraction by the bottled water industry, leading to
reduced access to water for local communities.

5. To address these concerns, some government agencies and civil society organisations in
India have advocated for alternatives to bottled water, such as water filters and
community-based water treatment systems. Additionally, efforts are underway to promote the
recycling of plastic waste, including water bottles. Despite these efforts, the demand for
bottled water in India is expected to continue to grow in the coming years. As such, it is
important to strike a balance between meeting the needs of consumers and addressing the
environmental and social impacts of bottled water consumption.

Based on the reading of the above passage answer the following questions:

1. Explain in 30-40 words, one social and cultural factor influencing the preference for
bottled water over other sources of water in urban areas.
