THE STORY OF THE TOWER OF BABEL
The descendants of Noah all
spoke a single language. As they
increased in number and began
to spread eastward, they found a
fertile area called Shinar and
settled there. They decided to
build a city with a tower that
"reached to the heavens." They
wanted the tower to be a proud
monument to themselves and a
symbol that would keep them
united as a powerful people.
THE STORY OF THE TOWER OF BABEL

If as one people speaking the

same language they have
begun to do this, then
nothing they plan to do will
However, God was not so be impossible for them.
Come, let us go down and
pleased. He came down and confuse their language so
looked at the city and tower they will not understand
and said, each other. (NIV, Genesis
11:6-7)
THE STORY OF THE TOWER OF BABEL
So God made the people
speak many different
languages so they could
not work together on
building the city and tower.
The He scattered the
people around the world
and the city was
abandoned. The city was
called "Babel" because
God confused their
languages.
The story above shows that LANGUAGE plays a
vital role in communication. LANGUAGE as
seen by linguist is a system of spoken and
written symbols which is purely human activity
used for communicating ideas, emotions, and
desires by means of a system of voluntarily
produced sounds.
Language is exclusive to human. No
animal or thing can be able use language
since language uses symbols.
NATURE OF
COMMUNICATION
communication
Communication is
a process of
sending and
receiving
information
among people.
“communicare”

Communication came from the

latin word Communicare which
means to make common to
many, to share and to impart.
“communicare”

When we are conversing with others, we share something to

them, may it be an exchange of knowledge, beliefs,
opinions, wishes, threats, commands, thanks, promises,
declarations, feelings – only our imagination sets limits.
Communicating with others takes us to a new experience.
We are either the ones starting the conversation process or
the ones receiving it. As the exchange of information
progresses, both the source and the recipient go through
favorable or unfavorable experiences. The two or more
individuals involved may end up satisfied or discontented
with the result. At some random instances, conflicts may
incidentally arise. But still, the end goal of communication is
always for building better human relationships.
Communication is a two-way process
of connecting to both living and non-
living things. It is also a means of
sharing and exchanging messages,
information, ideas, and feelings for
mutual understanding (Gregoriom,
J.C., 2015).
Here, communication

People cannot not

People cannot survive without communication. Absence of communication leads to misunderstandings
and chaos. It is a vital activity that human beings perform on a daily basis.

Communication Process Definition
The term communication process refers to the
exchange of information (a message) between
two or more people. For communication to
succeed, both parties must be able to exchange
information and understand each other. If the flow
of information is blocked for some reason or the
parties cannot make themselves understood, then
communication fails.
It is inevitable to be misunderstood in a
conversation. Sometimes the message has been
sent but the manner of sending the message was
interrupted, which may lead to communication
failure. We failed the communication because we
did not consider the other elements needed in the
process.
In a nutshell, we have the sender the message
and the receiver in order to communicate.

What did you use to

send the message?
