Sub-topic 7: Impact of tourism on the socio-cultural environment of the Caribbean
Role of the tourist board in influencing tourist perception of Caribbean society
The tourist board (Ministry of Tourism) can influence the tourist opinion/perception of the
Caribbean societies in the following ways:
1. They should encourage workers in the tourism industry to treat the tourist with respect
and provide proper service to him or her
2. it can encourage more shows/plays which show aspects of local culture
3. it can request police officers and hotel owners to provide proper security for the
tourists
Opportunities for tourists to meet Caribbean people
The tourists and the citizens of the country often meet each other at the following places:
1. Public beaches
2. Cultural shows
3. sporting events example football or cricket matches
4. shopping malls
Relationship between Tourists and the Caribbean people
Three types of relationships can occur between the tourist and Caribbean people. They are:
1. Conflict
2. cultural change
3. change in lifestyle
