A GUIDE FOR
STRENGTHENING, SCALING, AND SUSTAINING
THE CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR MOVEMENT

www.christianendeavor.com
WELCOME
Align. Advance. Amplify

Today, there are 2 billion youth without eternal hope! Into this
darkness, God has positioned the Christian Endeavor Movement
(CE) to shine the light of Christ (Jn. 1:5). For over 140 years, CE
has helped youth commit to Christ and engage in His kingdom
work as they grow into the fullness of Christ (Eph. 4:11-13). By
God’s grace, today this relational network shines bright in 47
countries.

Over one hundred years ago, in CE’s first handbook, founder

Reverend Francis E. Clark wrote, “So rapidly has the movement
developed...in so many lands throughout the world...that a
volume...which attempts to condense into one comprehensive
account the salient features of the movement” was needed.
This guidebook would “acquaint [others] with the progress ,the
principles, and the practices of the Christian Endeavor Society."
[1]

Now, once again, as the movement experiences renewed

growth, an advocate’s guidebook is needed. Advocates are
partners who actively support the movement by aligning with
its purpose and principles, advancing its practices, and
amplifying their passion for ministries of committed and
engaged youth. Together we envision the movement connecting
10,000 affiliate churches and impacting 100 nations – all by
2031. Oh, what an electrifying celebration that will be as we
mark our 150th anniversary!

As CE Advocates, may God stir our hearts to step forward and

fulfill this audacious vision, for the glory of our King.

ABOUT THIS GUIDEBOOK
Align. Advance. Amplify

This guidebook helps CE Advocates align with CE purposes and principles, advance
CE practices, and amplify their passion in order to strengthen, scale, and sustain the
Christian Endeavor movement.
Material is presented in three parts:
Part 1 – Strengthen by Aligning
Part 2 – Scale by Advancing
Part 3 – Sustain by Amplifying

Each part contains four sections meant to answer common questions:

Inspire – Why does this matter?
Inform – What should I know?
Apply – How do I process this (for myself and others)?
Activate – Now, what will I do?

In the Inspire and Inform sections you will find historical highlights, introductions to core
concepts, and biblical foundations for youth ministry. Use the Apply sections to help you
assess (clarify) and adapt (contextualize) this content so as to appropriately apply it.
Finally, the Activate pages provide space to create an action plan that’s right for you, your
church, and your CE network. Whether you’re an existing affiliate, or new to CE, allow The
Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to guide you in appropriately adapting and applying this
material in ways which encourage, equip, and empower your personal life, church, and
local CE network. After all, it is the Spirit who helps us commit to Christ and engage the
ministry of His Church (Jn. 14:16; Acts 1:8).

Earlier this year, CE affiliates from nineteen nations contributed to the One Movement,
Many Voices Survey; sharing their opinions on strengthening, scaling, and sustaining the
movement. The overwhelming majority believed this guidebook would benefit the
movement. Throughout this text, we’ll include their voices. As a result, you’ll discover many
of the principles, practices, and passions which make up this movement. At the conclusion
of this resource, you’ll find a place to take next steps such as joining CE, submitting
feedback, and digging deeper (by becoming a training facilitator who helps others apply
the material in this guidebook).

A century ago, renowned missionary William Carey stated, “Millions of young lives have
been redeemed and quickened to highest service in the name of the King through the
simple but soldierly spirit of Christian Endeavor.”[2] Through CE Advocates like you, and
the power of the Holy Spirit, we believe millions more young lives will be saved and
discipled in the years to come. In doing so, God will use the Christian Endeavor movement
to illuminate 100 nations with the eternal hope of Christ Jesus.

STATEMENT OF FAITH
WE BELIEVE IN...

The Holy Scriptures as originally given by God; divinely inspired, infallible, entirely
trustworthy, and the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

One God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, His virgin birth, His sinless human
life, His divine miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His
ascension, His mediatorial work, and His personal return in power and glory.

The Salvation of lost and sinful man through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ,
by faith apart from works, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the believer is enabled to live a holy life, to
witness and to work for the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Unity of the Spirit of all true believers, the Church, the Body of Christ.

The Resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the
resurrection of life; they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
