Lesson Plan 1 (Student center - low tech)

Topic of lesson: Chemical and Physical Changes (grade 4)

Instructional approach

The lesson is about chemical and physical changes and their characteristics using an
inquiry-based teaching method. This lesson plan will be divided into 3 sessions.
 Session 1: The students will read an article about Chemical changes and its
characteristics. The students will deduce them. After that the teacher will reinforce
the information.
 Session 2: Students will watch a video on YouTube where they will deduce the
definition of Physical Changes and its characteristics. After that the teacher will re-
explain the lesson.
 Session 3: The teacher will divide the class into 4 different groups and assign them
to the 4 stations. After they are done with their station, they will rotate and observe
the other stations. The instructor will introduce the 4 different stations:
1. Station 1: This station consists of gummy bears and scissors. The
students will cut the gummy bears and put them in plastic cups.
After they are done, the students will write what they have
observed.
2. Station 2: This station consists of gummy bears and 7-up. The
students observe the change that happens and write their
observations.
3. Station 3: This station consists of gummy bears and a rock. The
students smash the gummy bears with a rock and write with their
observation.
4. Station 4: this station will consist of gummy bears. The students
chew the gummy bears and swallow them. They will assume what
happens to the gummy bears when it reaches their stomach.
The groups will share their observations and tell whether the
change of each station is Chemical or Physical. The teacher will
correct their assumptions and explain why it is chemical or physical.

Lesson Plan 2 (Teacher centered - high tech)

Topic of lesson: Chemical and Physical Changes (grade 4)

Instructional approach

The lesson is about chemical and physical changes and their characteristics.
The class will be online via Google classroom. The teacher will share a poll on poll
everywhere asking the students about chemical and physical changes. The teacher will
share a PowerPoint presentation where she will explain about chemical and physical
changes and their characteristics. She will play a YouTube video to reinforce the
information.
The lesson will be divided into 3 sessions:
Session 1: the students will record themselves, using Flip, summarizing the definition of a
chemical change and its characteristics.
Session 2: the students will create a mind map on Coggle listing the definition of physical
change and characteristics.
Session 3: Students will create an infographic poster using Canva on both changes and
their differences.
At the end, the teacher will reshare the poll that was posted at the beginning of the lesson.
The students will answer and compare their answers.
