waste or excretory products using a dialysis machine is called dialysis
23. Fertilization
2
Ans: The production of new individuals from their parents is known as reproduction.

2
Ans: a process where in a thin layer of zinc metal gets deposited on iron objects to prevent
rusting of iron.
25. Anaerobic respiration
2
Ans: the process of respiration that takes place in the absence of oxygen in which glucose
breaks into alcohol and carbon dioxide with release of energy. It takes place in yeast cells.
26. Crystallization
2

SECTION E 10x2=20
Answer the following in one or two sentences

27. Why is explosion of crackers considered as chemical change? 2

Ans: Explosion of crackers is a chemical change because during burning of crackers new
substances are formed and heat, light, sound and gases are produced.
28. Why is an antacid tablet taken when you suffer from acidity? 2
Antacid tablet contains magnesium hydroxide (weak base) which neutralizes the effect of
excess acid produced in the stomach and gives relief.
29. What is a simple pendulum? 2
Ans: A small metal ball (bob) suspended by a long thread from a rigid support, such that the
bob is free to swing back and forth is called a simple pendulum.
30. Write the characteristics of acids by which we can identify acids? 2
● They are sour in taste.
● They turn blue litmus paper/solution to red.
● Dilution of acid in water is an exothermic reaction, i.e. heat energy is evolved.
31. Explain the process of respiration in the roots of a plant? 2
Ans: Oxygen from the air in soil particles diffuses into root hair and reaches all the cells of the
plant, where it is
used for respiration. Carbon dioxide produced during respiration goes out through the root
hair by diffusion
32. Observe given figure and answer the given question. 2
a) Name the instrument.
b) Label the parts A, B and C.

Ans: Stethoscope

33. What are the special features of seeds and fruits which are dispersed by wind? 2
Seeds and fruits dispersed by wind have the following special features:
(i) They are small and lightweight. Thus, they are easily blown away by
4
the wind.
(ii) They have wings or hair around them.
34. Observe the figures carefully and answer the following 2
questions.

(a) Which process is being tested in the activity?

(b) What is the result of the activity? Give reasons.
Answer:
(a) Exhalation process of respiration is being tested in
the activity.
(b) The lime water in test tube B turns milky but water
in test tube A remains unchanged. Because CO2 is
present in the exhaled air, it mixes with lime water in
test tube B and turns it milky.

35. Why melting of ice to form water is considered a physical change? 2

Melting of ice does not form any new substance. Ice and water both have the same chemical
composition. Only change in physical state takes place during the process. Thus, the melting of
ice is a physical change and not a chemical change.
36. What are the functions performed by sweating in human being? 2
The functions performed by sweating in human beings are
(i) Sweating helps in removing excess water, some salts, and urea as liquid waste(sweat) from
the body.
(ii) Sweating helps in keeping the body cool during summers

5
a) Why did Nitika suddenly feel the pain in her legs while running?
b) What value should you learn from Monika?
Ans: (a) Nitika felt pain due to a muscle cramp which happened because of anaerobic
respiration in muscle cells, in which lactic acid is formed in the muscle cells
anaerobic respiration
Glucose (food) Lactic acid + Energy
