Hook's Law Experiment
1 Objective:
To investigate Hooke’s law (the relation between force stretch for a spring) and determine
the spring constants of elastic spring

2 Theoretical Background

Hooke’s Law is stating that "the restoring force acting on an object is

proportional to the negative of the displacement (deformation) of the
object

F = -k Δx

where
F is the restoring force (comeression)
K is the spring constant
x is the displacement of thing

Unit of F is (N)newton
Unit of k is (N/m)newton/meter
Unit of x is(m)meter
3 Equipment
Spiral spring with atlached by plasticine at is end rigid sland clamp
meter ruler scole pen weight and stop watch

1
4 Method

1. The spring with scale pan atloched is fumly clomly clomped and
meter scale placed vertically so that the pointer moves liglrrty
over it.

2. The scale readings are also take when unlooding the spring and
the means extension thus obtained

3. Weight is oddled to the scale-pen and the corresponding

extensions of the spring are recorded this is repeated different
weight

4. A graph of extension against applied force is platted from which

the spring constant can calculated
5 Results

At a spring constant of 200 N/m

x (m) F (N)
0,000 0
0,100 20
0,200 40
0,300 60
0,400 80
0,500 100

6 Graph

3
Plot the relation between x (on x axis) and F( on y axis) in
sperate squares paper sheet.

7 Calculations

Slope= =200 N / M
0,200−0,100

slope =…200N/M……………………………………

k =…F/X=N/M =200 N/M………………………………

The true value (which used in your experiment), k T =¿ 200 N/m
