RF-7800R-RC REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM OPERATOR CARD

1. GENERAL EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION

The RF-7800R-RC Remote Control System (RCS) is a compact, rugged system that allows users full remote control capability
of any Harris Falcon II or Falcon III radio. The RCS supports full control using the Keypad Display Unit (KDU) and transmit and
receive audio and data.

The transmitting radio, connected to the Local Control Unit (LCU), can be separated from the Remote Control Unit (RCU) by
distances up to 3.5 km using standard military field wire (WD-1A or equivalent). Greater distances are possible through the
Auxiliary (AUX) port using an external fiber modem or HCLOS transceiver.

The RCS consists of two identical units designated as the RCU (operator site) and as the LCU (radio site). The RCS is configured
and the LCU site is determined when the radio interface cable is installed.

For information on operating controls, indicators, and connectors, see Figure 1, and refer to Table 1 and Table 2.

2. WARNINGS/CAUTIONS
• WARNING: The RF-7800R system contains no encryption. The system is used to extend the signals available at the
radio to a remote site using a digitally multiplexed data stream. Evaluation of the RF-7800R for use in a system
approved for secure data transmission is the user's responsibility.
• WARNING: The volume display and control on the KDU are not used with the RCS system; volume control is adjusted
through the RCU volume knob.
• CAUTION: Older computer equipment that does not fully meet the RS-232 specifications may have problems working
at the 115.2 kbps rate. If problems occur, lower the Point-to-Point (PPP) data rate on the radio to 19.2 kbps.
