Flange adapter / tank separator

Flange adapter

Prepare flange adapter to install tank separator for atmospheric and medium pressure antennas:
• free space: F06 - F08 antennas
• stilling well: S06 - S12 antennas

Use any flange adapter of 10 to 30 mm (0.03 to 0.10”) thickness or, alternatively, prepare
counter flange.

Flange adapter must have hole pattern of roof nozzle

flange. Refer to Appendix A for mechanical details.

For safety, the flange adapter must be finished to 20 µm over a diameter of 100 mm (4") at
the underside of the flange adapter around tank separator hole. However, for adequate
sealing in pressurized applications, the surface finish requirement is 1.6 µm.

Tank separator
The tank separator for planar antennas is already fixed to the antenna.
Install tank separator and antenna as follows (figure 1):

1) Check if O-ring (1) on tank separator is in 4

place.
3
2) Insert tank separator (2) from underneath
flange adapter.
Mind locking pin! 2

3) Place M55 inside star washer (3) over tank

separator. 1

4) Tighten tank separator nut (4).

Figure 1 Install tank separator

Installation F06 – F08 antenna

Free space 6” and 8” planar antennas

The 6" planar antenna (F06) can be installed on a 6" (or larger) roof nozzle or on a manhole.
The 8" planar antenna (F08) can be installed on an 8" (or larger) roof nozzle or on a manhole.
Refer to section: flange adapter / tank separator.
Measuring range: up to 30 m (98 ft) for F06; up to 75 m (246 ft) for F08
For longer distances contact factory.
Temperature range: -40°C to +100°C (-40°F to +212°F)
Process temperature range: -200°C to +250°C (-328°F to +483°F)
For high temperature applications, planar antennas need to be mounted in
accordance with the installation manual. For temperatures > 250°C (482 °F)
consult your local Honeywell Enraf representative.
Maximum operating pressure: 6 bar / 0.6 MPa (87 psi)
Wetted parts: AISI 316 and FEP
Stem length: 50 mm (0.16 ft); 300 mm (0.98 ft); 500 mm (1.64 ft);
800 mm (2.62 ft)

Antenna position
If possible, the radar beam should avoid large reflecting obstacles.
The antenna can be positioned anywhere on the tank roof, except in the centre when the tank
has a dome roof. For optimum accuracy, a minimum distance from the tank shell is
recommended (refer to table below).
Antenna Minimum distance from tank shell
97x without 97x with
SmartRadar
AdvancedDSP AdvancedDSP
FlexLine
software enabled software enabled
F06 0.28 x tank height 0.14 x tank height 0.14 x tank height
F08 0.15 x tank height 0.1 x tank height 0.1 x tank height
For normal applications it is recommended to select the stem length so that antenna position
is below roof nozzle as shown in figure 2. For high temperature applications and those
applications where it is required to pull up the antenna into the nozzle to meet maximum safe
fill requirements, the flange with separator’s hole off center must be used as shown in figure 3.

Installation F06 - F08 antenna

Field orientation planar antenna

Install antenna with tank separator as far as
possible from the tank wall and with magnetic
field (H-field) and electric field (E-field) directed E Locking
in a 45° angle towards tank shell (refer to pin hole
figure 4).
Note: For the F06 antenna, this configuration is
appropriate for the new F06 antenna, Antenna H
that can be recognized by the off centre Tank shell
stem. The old F06 antenna has the stem Nozzle
in the centre, comparable to the S06
antenna (see Appendix B).

Figure 4 Field orientation planar antenna

Manhole cover preparation

For easy installation, make 6”/8" nozzle
on manhole cover.

Limit nozzle height to minimize antenna

stem length. Nozzle can be constructed
from a 6”/8", 150 lb welding neck Figure 5 Manhole nozzle for SmartRadar
flange. Refer to figure 5.
