The aim of this study is to find a model by improving the reading skills through the medium
of drawing on student’s second semester of grade III with mentally retarded in SDLB Negeri
Cangakan Karanganyar in the school year 2009/2010.
The approach used in this study is Class Action Research (CAR). It is a study done by teacher
in the class where he or she teaches by stressing on perfectness or increasing practice and process in
learning the Indonesia Languaghe. The subject of this study is all of elementary class III students
semester II in SDLB Negeri Cangakan Karanganyar in the school year 2009/2010 that consisting of
5 students.
This study uses descriptive comparative analysis technique, namely by comparing the tes value of
inter-cycles. This study analyzes the students’ test value before using media image and their test
value after using media image two cycles.
Based on the result of processing data it can be concluded that the application of students
learning to read at grade III with mentally retarded in SDLB Negeri Cangakan Karanganyar through
media images that have been executed can be concluded that media images can enhance students’
ability to read grade III with mentally retarded in SDLB Negeri Cangakan Karanganyar semester II
in the school year 2009/2010. Based on preliminary data known to the average reading scores
reading scores of 58,00. Exhaustiveness classically has reached 60%. In the second cycle, the
average reading scores of 64,00. Exhaustiveness classically has reached 100%.
