All the parameters required for alarm processing and control of the engine can be entered and varied through the operator station. Operator station ~ 4 SELECTING CHANNEL (MEASURING POINT) DATA ‘There are various possible methods of connecting or activating channel data: 4.1 KEY: CHANNEL NUMBER DIRECT [F 8] Assigned to each measuring point is a channel number that can be selected directly. The number related to a particular measuring point is clear from the list of measuring points Once the key [F8] is pressed an entry menu is activated on the BS 40 ( [CH] displayed in the left top corner). The channel number can be keyed in directly by means of the numerical- key block. Pressing the ENTER key activates the channel data. The LED above the group key (see below) related to the selected channel comes on. — fan ‘illegal’ channel number has been enter the data of the channel connected last appear on the display 4.2. GROUP KEYS: MEDIA PRESS, MEDIA TEMPS, EXHAUST TEMP, MISCEL LIST (F2}- [F 5] % The measuring points, in addition to being related to a channel number, are assigned'to one of the following groups - General pressures (F2] = General temperatures [F3] - Exhaust temperatures [F4] - General channels [F5] When any of the keys is pressed the first channel of the particular list is connected. The LED above the group key comes on. The [+] and [-] keys can be used to select the other list channels within the lists. Channels ‘are arranged in increasing sequence by the channel numbers. When the tail end of a list is reached pressing the [+] key activates the first channel of the list. Pressing the [-] key at the front end of the list activates the last channel. 4.3 EVENT LISTS: ENG ALARM, RED STOP ALARM [F6}-[F7] When an alarm (reduce, stop) cause occurs in a channel the channel number is written at the tail end of an event list, differentiation being made only as to a general engineer alarm list (alarm only) and a reduce and shutdown list. When a list key [F6] or [F7] is pressed the last channel added to the list is activated. Just like for the group lists, the [+] and [-] keys can be used to move through the event lists. 4.4 AUTOMATIC ACTIVATING ‘When an alarm or a cause to shut down or reduce occurs the particular channel is automatically connected to the display of the 8S 40. When more than one event occurs the event determined last is connected The channel is not connected as long as the BS 40 is in the parameter setting mode. 4.5 FUNCTION CHANNELS: CTRL VIT, CTRL CHARGE AIR, CTRL CH.AIR TEMP, CTRL CYLINDER LUBRIC, CTRL PUMP [F13] - [F17] In addition to the channels processing signals from the measuring points, there are a number of channels in which the control functions are handled. The latter channels are identified by channel numbers greater than 499. These numbers are not used in any other group list or event list. They can be selected directly by means of the particular function key [F13] thru [F17] or through the particular channel number. # 10 5 DISPLAY IN STATUS MODE The mode of display which appears on the BS 40 after a channel has been selected depends on the type of channel. 5.1. To permit parameters to be set for a particular channel the latter must be connected to the BS 40 display. Press the CHANGE SET-UP key [F 9] to initiate changing of parameters. 6.1 PARAMETER SETTING FOR MEASURING POINT CHANNELS. Changes to measuring point channels require a four-digit PIN number to be keyed in. Itis noteworthy that PIN numbers for the alarm system and the safety system are different. If an ‘illegal’ number is entered a warning notice appears for about 3 seconds. Thereafter, the basic mask of the channel is displayed again. Set-up: Keying in a correct PIN takes you into the change parameters menu. GE PARAMI The display shows the channel number of the parameters to be changed, the firstiparameter of the set of parameters, and the parameter number. Parameters can be selected by means of the cursor keys [ft] and [ll]. The type and the number of parameters depend on the type of channel. Complete the entry by means of the [{l] and [1!] keys. The bit values for 100% and 0% admission should be scaled by means of admission transducer. To this end, whilst the parameter is ‘connected’ press the [=] key. The bit value received from the admission transducer and scaled is now shown in the display. Set the admission transducer to the desired value (0% or 100%, as applicable). Once the ENTER key is pressed the bit value is accepted in the parameter panel The values of the scale points (admission transducer position) are given in 1/10mm in the remaining parameters of the channel. All computations of the system which involve fuel admission (output, fuel injection timing adjustment, blow-by, etc.) are based on these data 7 . 6.4 DESCRIPTIVE NOTES RELATING TO THE PARAMETERS 6.4.1 GENERAL PARAMETERS RANGE: RANGE serves to indicate the equivalent to the maximum possible bit value (4095). Example: A pressure transducer, for pressures from 0 to 6 bar, sends a 4-20 mA signal to. the PLC. In the PLC, this signal is scaled to bit values from 0 to 4095. Thus, a Range of 6 has to be selected to permit the actual pressure (in bar) to be displayed on the BS 40. For NiCrNi channels, no parameters can be set for the Range, and the Range is set to 1000. For Pt100 channels the Range is required to be set to 400. Setting of 4-20 mA channels depends on the particular transducer used. OFFSET; ‘The Offset serves to shift the display range. Example: A pressure transducer, for pressures from 4 to 10 bar, sends a 4-20 mA signal to the PLC. In the PLC this signal is scaled to bit values from 0 to 4095. Thus, a Range of 6 (10 ~ 4 = 6) and an Offset of 4 have to be set to permit the actual pressure (in bar) to be displayed on the BS 40. IS BLOCKED INTERN: * The channel can be blocked manually for alarm monitoring. Alarms generated previously are blocked too. DELAY IN SECONDS: An alarm is generated not until after the cause of the alarm has been existing over the time é interval set. IS BLOCKED BY GROUP NO.: ‘There are 15 blocking groups to which a channel can be assigned. When the particular block group is active’ all channels in the group are blocked. Alarms generated previously are not affected by the blocking. ‘ Groups 13, 14 and 15 are function groups pre-assigned in the alarm system and in the safety system’ Group 13: Charge air temperature control is OFF. Once the control is enabled the blocking stays active for another 60 seconds. Group 14: The engine is standing idle (fuel admission < 8% and speed < 20 RPM). After the engine has started the blocking is active for another 16 seconds. Group 15: The engine is standing idle (see above). After the engine has started the group is enabled without delay. 18 New 1S BLOCKING GROUP NO.: When an alarm is generated the blocking group indicated stays active. Thus, consequential alarms as may occur can be suppressed. A channel of the alarm system can block channels of the alarm system only. Similarly, an alarm of the safety system can block channels of the | ‘safety system only. Groups 1 thru 12 only can be activated. GROUP A:/GROUP B: The group assignment in the alarm system and the safety system is needed to permit an appropriate function to be inferred from an alarm event (value above or below limit; N.O contact closed, N.C. contact open). IN each case, one alarm group unit (A1 - AF and B1 - BF) is available for the alarm system and the safety system. This implies that, typically, group A3 initiates in the alarm system a function that differs from the function initiated by A3 in the safety system. |) The function initiated by the group is defined in the program and cannot be altered as.a parameter. BINARY LOGIC: N.O. = normally open contact. A nought signal at the input is considered a normal condition; a one signal is considered an alarm status N.C. = normally closed contact. A one signal at the input is considered a normal condition; a nought signal is considered an alarm status. Alarm-initiating contacts are usually designed as N.C. contacts. STOP and REDUCE. initiating contacts are designed as N.O. contacts. For STOP and REDUCE initiating contacts, provision for broken wires is additionally made in the hardware. 21 6.4.2 SPECIAL PARAMETERS FOR EXHAUST MEAN VALUE SYSTEM. The HIGH and LOW limits of the exhaust channels are determined from the exhaust temperature mean function. To this end, the number of cylinders is required to be entered under the parameter number 1 {CYLINDER NUMBER). The allowable variation of a cylinder temperature from the mean is calculated via the output (output calculation -> Channel 506). The parameters 2 {dT (min)}, 3 {dT{max}), 4 {p(min)} and 5 {p(edge)} must be indicated to permit the function to be defined, pimin) pledge) P Fig. 6.4.2: Function of the allowable variation from the exhaust temperature mean (dT) ‘The HIGH and LOW limits of the exhaust temperatures (channels 306 thru 313) are calculated from the sum or the differential of exhaust temperature mean and allowable temperature variation (dT), and assigned internally. Therefore, it is not possible to s@t a limit ‘as a parameter in the exhaust channels. At parameter number 6 {T(max)}, enter the absolute HIGH limit which the temperature mean is allowed to assume. 6.4.3 SPECIAL PARAMETERS FOR FUEL INJECTION TIMING ADJUSTMENT AND WEMA CARD ‘Adjustment of fuel injection timing is made as a function of both fuel admission and speed. As, in this case, the admission is calibrated in millimetres rather than in percent complete parameters for the fuel rack (Chivo 503) have to be entered. For the speed-dependent function of fuel injection timing adjustment the parameters 504/0, (lower speed point) 504/1, (higher speed point), 504/2 (lower positioning point), and 504/3 (higher positio ) have to be entered. sore . 300 sow Fig, 6.4.3-1 Speed-dependent fuel injection timing adjustment 22 The admission-dependent function of fuel injection timing adjustment is entered via the parameters 504/4 (lower fuel point), 504/5 (first break), 504/6 (second break), and 504/7 (higher fuel point), as well as 504/8 (lower positioning point), 504/9 (first break), 504/10 (second break), and 504/11 (higher positioning point). soatt soa 60a 6005 S047 Fig, 6.4.3-2 Admission-dependent fuel injection timing adjustment 6.4.4 SPECIAL PARAMETERS FOR BLOW-BY CONTROL ‘The blow-by valve can be controlled both automatically and manually. The mode is selected on parameter 4 (MODE). % In the MANUAL mode the valve can be activated by means of parameter 5 (SWITCH). In the AUTOMATIC mode, parameter 5 has no influence. In the AUTOMATIC mode the valve is controlled as a function of speed and fuel admission HIGH LOAD. “LOW LOAD Low HIGH SPEED Fig. 6.4.4: Function pattern of blow-by control ‘The blow-by control is activated within a range defined by the parameters 0 (LOW SPEED). 1 (HIGH SPEED), 2 (LOW LOAD) and 3 (HIGH LOAD). 23 bade 4 6.4.5 SPECIAL PARAMETERS FOR CHARGE AIR TEMPERATURE CONTROL THE PROJECT FERRO DOES NOT INCLUDE CHARGE AIR TEMPERATURE CONTROL. The charge air temperature control can be controlled both automatically and manually. The mode is selected on parameter 4 (MODE). In the MANUAL mode the control can be activated by parameter 5 (SWITCH). In the AUTOMATIC mode, parameter 5 has no influence. 6.4.6 SPECIAL PARAMETERS FOR CYLINDER LUBRICATION The cylinder lubrication can be controlled both automatically and manually. The mode is selected on parameter 3 (MODE). 1 In the MANUAL mode the cylinder lubrication can be activated by parameter 4 (SWITCH). In the MANUAL mode the states OFF and FAST only can be selected. In the AUTOMATIC mode, parameter 4 has no influence. ) After the engine has started the cylinder lubrication initially operates in the FAST mode. If, after the time given under parameter 0 (PRE LUB TIME) in seconds, the speed does not ‘exceed 20 RPM the cylinder lubrication is shut off. | If the firing speed has been exceeded the cylinder lubrication is controlled in the FAST mode | for the time set in parameter 1 (LUB TIME). The pump is then controlled in the FAST and SLOW modes as a function of speed. | Once the speed has dropped below firing speed the pump operates in the SLOW méde for the time set in parameter 2 (POST LUB TIME). | 6.4.7 SPECIAL PARAMETERS FOR OUTPUT CALCULATION The theoretical output is determined from fuel admission and speed by the formula 4 P= nf%] * K1 * ( F[%] - K2) . ‘The parameter 0 (NOMINAL SPEED) is required to determine the relative speed. When _ entering the parameter the constants K1 and K2 must be multiplied by the factor 100. 6.4.8 SPECIAL PARAMETERS FOR FUEL ADMISSION TRANSDUCER The parameters 0 (FUEL RACK POSITION 100%) and 1 (FUEL RACK POSITION 0%) are scaled during commissioning (see 6.3). They are indicative of the bit values for 100% and 0% admission. The fuel rack positions in 1/10 mm are entered on parameters 2 (MAX RACK POSITION) and 3 (MIN RACK POSITION) | 6.4.9 SPECIAL PARAMETERS FOR AUXILIARY PUMPS ‘The speed points for the coolant pump and the oil pump are entered on parameters 0 and 1 respectively. : 24 7 STOP, REDUCE AND ALARM PROCESSING ‘The measuring point channels are managed in both the alarm system and the safety system, i.e. There are two sets of data for each channel which are processed in parallel. When the channel data are connected both data sets are available; key ([ F10] AL-SYS / SAF-SYS) can be used to toggle between the sets. As a tule, the data of only one measuring point are processed in the parallel channels. It is possible to generate from one measuring point both an alarm and a reduce/stop with different limits. As this is not desirable for the majority of the channels the particular channel not used is blocked internally (parameter setting), or the limits are zeroed (see broken-wire detection), For redundant channels, each parallel channel is supplied with data from an own measuring point. If a broken wire occurs in one channel this is displayed on the BS 40 as "WiBr" (Wire Break-> Broken wire) in the status panel. However, the data of the parallel channel are used for processing and, hence, the monitoring function is ensured. A broken wire in the safety system does not initiate a STOP or REDUCE. Broken-wire monitoring for the analogue channels of the safety system is performed by the paralle! channels in the alarm system. The alarm limits of these parallel channels are zeroed to ensure that an alarm is generated in case of a broken wire only All the alarms of the alarm system generate an audible signal (OP 12 and separate output). ‘When the channel is connected to the BS 40 the blinking word ‘Alarm’ appears in the status panel. In addition, the alarm group light in the door blinks. To acknowledge the alarm the horn must be silenced by pressing the SILENCE key ofthe BS 40 or OP 12. The alarm must be connected to the BS 40 to permit it to be acknowledged. The alarm can then be acknowledged by pressing the ACCEPT key [F12] or the illuminated push button in the door. In the status panel the blinking word ALARM is replaced by the word ACCEPT or, in case of a broken wire, by WiBr. The alarm is retained in the alarm list and can be called up at any time When the cause of the alarm ceases to exist the channel is automatically deleted from the alarm list. When the channel is called up the word NORMAL appears in the status panel When itis desirable to delete from the list a channel whilst the cause still exists, the alarm can be blocked internally through parameter setting (e.g. a faulty sensor). ‘As long as there are channels in the alarm status they cannot be automatically blocked by the blocking group. After a status change, however, they are automatically blocked by their blocking group. REDUCE Alarms are handied in a manner highly similar to that of the ENGINEER alarms. For STOP alarms the procedure is defined in the same way as for the ENGINEER alarms. However, they are not automatically returned into the NORMAL mode. They must be reset by pressing the ACCEPT key once again. However, this can be done only whilst the engine is standing idle or the cause to STOP has ceased to exist. In case of STOP and REDUCE alarms, a blinking STOP and REDUCE, respectively, appears on the display of the BS 40. Again a broken wire is signalled by the term 'WiBr’ However, the channel does not appear in the REDUCE and the STOP lists. For redundant channels, there are separate broken-wire detector channels established in the alarm system. A broken wire in a redundant channel causes an alarm in the broken-wire channel. In the measuring point channel, "WiBr’ is displayed in the status panel. ALARM, STOP and REDUCE processing is performed by means of the data from the redundant measuring point. 25 om A me Pe! ie 8 REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTIONS ‘The engine can be remote-started and remote-stopped through the OP 12. Starting requires that no starting blocks be applied. This is signalled by the particular light 1/4 on OP 12. The lamp signals that at least one starting block exists. A ist of existing starting blocks is obtained by pressing the CTRL MAIN ENGINE key [F1] on the BS 40 . Pressing [F1] makes the starting block causes displayed in the bottom display line ‘START BLOCK : REMOTE STOP START BLOCK : AUTOMATIC STOP. START BLOCK : EMERGENCY STOP BRIDGE No rémote stp initiated Automatic stop initiated by safety system Emergency stop initiated from the bridge START BLOCK : EMERGENCY STOP ECR Emergency stop initiated from ECR START BLOCK : EMERGENCY STOP ENGINE Emergency stop initiated from ER START BLOCK : START FAILURE Starting fault has occurred ~ START BLOCK : PITCH HID > ZERO Pitch of HID <> Zero START BLOCK : REFERENCE SPEED TOO HIGH Selected speed too high START BLOCK : PRELUBRICATION PRESSURE Prelube press. not yet applied for 1 min START BLOCK : TURNING GEAR ENGAGED — Turning gear not disengaged ‘START BLOCK : REMOTE CONTROL OFF Remote control disabled ‘START BLOCK : MANUAL MODE Remote control in MANUAL mode ‘START IS NOT BLOCKED tiated In addition to the blocks, the top display line shows the status of the main propulsion engine. In detail, the following displays are possible: ME CONDITION: RUNNING ME CONDITION: NOT RUNNING ME CONDITION: STARTING ME CONDITION: STOPPING ME CONDITION: BLOCKED No starting blocks Engine is running Engine is standing idle Starting program in progress ‘Shutdown procedure Starting is blocked ME CONDITION: OVERSPEED STOPPED ME CONDITION: OVERRIDE BRIDGE ~ME CONDITION: OVERRIDE ECR Overspeed trip Override from the bridge Override from the ECR_ The following applies to both lines: In case of more than one cause to display (more than one starting block) these are connected in succession at one-second intervals. There must be no causes to block prior to starting. The required oil pressure, must be-dpplied for not less than one minute for the prelube pressure to cease as a cause t& block. After the START key has been pressed the starting solenoid is energised for six seconds. Unless the starting speed is reached within this interval the starting trial must be discontinued and a starting failure outputted. Prior to another starting attempt, acknowledge the starting failure through the OP 12. When a remote stop is initiated whilst the engine is running the shutdown solenoid is energised until the engine speed has dropped below the minimum speed for ten seconds. ‘When an automatic shutdown is initiated by the safety system both the shutdown valve and the emergency shutdown valve are energised. The emergency shutdown valve remains energised until after the stop alarm has ceased to exist. The override can be used to interrupt or ‘disregard’ the automatic stop unless the cause for shutdown has been’a mariuai ‘emergency stop or an overspeed trip, ° %
