Design Science

Research is developing a mobile application for collaborative learning at AUWC.

The mobile

application collaborating learning process use mixed Design Methodology or

both qualitative

Design Methodology and quantitative Design methodology. It had made a

student actively

engage in building their own minds. In this paper we have find in our experiment
that is mobile

the students that

can use mobile application for non-collaborating learning

1. Introduction

Mobile collaborative learning is considered the next step of on-line

collaborative learning by

incorporating mobility as a key and breakthrough requirement. The

concept of mobile

collaborative learning (MCL) is completely different from classroom based learning.

This type
of academic learning method provides many possibilities, such as providing
opportunities to

groups of people working in same or different organizations to accomplish a

specific goal using

mobile devices. Mobile technology has been adapted as a main communication since
it is well

suited in engaging collaborative learning environments. suited in engaging

collaborative learning

environments. The concept of mobile collaborative learning (MCL) is completely

different from

classroom based learning. This type of pedagogical learning method provides many
possibilities,

such as providing opportunities to groups of people working in same or different

organizations to

accomplish a specific goal using mobile devices. The mobile learning application
is a software

product for mobile devices. To access the lectures on an individual student mobile
device, the

required application should be designed to be downloaded from their university

website or other

places.

2. Problem of statements

The problems of the study are: -

Students unable to share information resources among the group members.

Due to lack of collaborative learning student unable to construct their

own understanding

based on their interactions with others

3. Objectives of study

To develop A mobile application for Collaborative learning for AUWC.

4. Literature Review

Technology has the potential to improve many aspects of our daily lives, including
learning. It

has been proven to increase student engagement (Kuh & Hu, 2001) and learning
outcomes.

Collaboration technologies are typically used to support group collaboration;

however, they can

be adapted to support collaborative learning. This collaborative learning

and collaboration

technology is related to computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL), in which

technology

is used to support or better enable collaborative learning. Students seem to learn

better or solve

problems correctly when they collaborate with others, especially when the task is
conceptual or

complex (Gabbert, Johnson, & Johnson, 1986). Furthermore, collaboration among

students also

seems to have beneficial effects such as improving social relations or

increasing motivation

(Sharan, 1980). Collaborative learning is a group-based learning approach in

which learners are

mutually engaged in a coordinated fashion to achieve a learning goal or complete a

learning task

(Dillenbourg, Baker, Blaye, & O'Malley, 1996). To design our

mobile application with

facilitated collaboration approach, we make use of the following

six basic patterns of

collaboration identified by Briggs et al. [23]: Generate Clarify, Reduce,

Organize, Evaluate,

Build consensus.

5. Research Questions
Is the mobile application use for collaborative learning and effective in
the enhancement

of college learners‟ performance?

What is the impact of mobile Application for collaborative

learning on students

„Achievement Results?

6. Hypothesis

Students who use the mobile app in their learning have

significantly higher learning

outcomes than students who do not use this app.

Students consider that their Mobile Application is not useful for

Collaborative

learning tools at university education.

7. Methodology of the study

The mobile application collaborating learning process use mixed or both

qualitative and

quantitative methodology. That means we use in the case of quantitative methodology

the group

member done by the way of data collection (interview, questionnaire) and

in the case of

qualitative methodology the group member experimentally checks he

effectiveness of Mobile
Application for Collaborative learning.

First we start with Quantitative Design Science Research Methodology. As

we have mention

above we select our population Ambo University Woliso Campus to more

make specify take

sample of MSc IT student 2013 and 2014 entry which learns in regular program.

After we have specified our Sample then we have distributed questionnaire

was structured in

different sections:

Section 1: - Personal Information (S11: gender and S12: age)

Section 2; -Effectiveness of Mobile application for collaborative learning

(S21: opinions and S22:

experiences)

 Students’ opinions on learning with smartphones: we can

identify weather or not the

student can support the Mobile Collaborative learning.

Second we can Summarizes the Information gained in the first section of the
methodology by

using Qualitative Design Science Research Method which can classify our students
which have

almost on the standard in using in all academic background then we classify them
into three class

those are class A, class B and class C

Class A and Class B: - Student using Mobile Application for collaborative

learning in AUWC

and sample of this paper.

Class C: - Student who do not use Mobile Application for collaborative learning in
AUWC and

sample of this paper.

After we have complete classification of our sample we have made an experimental

comparison

between Class A AND Class B to identify the result of Mobil Application

for Collaborative

learning in AUWC on the selected sample. To get the exact result of

Mobile Application for
Collaborative learning we compare the two class (Class A AND Class B) with Class C
then we

get the real result Is It Mobile Application for Collaborative learning

can made significant

change on the performance of student.

9. Discussion and Result of Works

9.1. Discussion

A Mobile Application for Collaborative Learning is an android social networking

application and
also a web based application designed for lecturers and students in the university
for the purpose

of having their lectures and class discussion to improve collaborative

learning among students

even without physical presence.

9.2. Result of Works

In this paper we have find in our experiment that is mobile application for
collaborating learning

more significant change for students than the students that can use mobile
application for non-

collaborating learning

10. Conclusion

Finally in this paper the experiment that is mobile application for collaborating
learning more
significant change for students than the students that can use mobile
application for non-

collaborating learning. Basically the main objectives of this research

design are to develop a

mobile application for collaborative learning for Ambo University Woliso Campus.
The mobile

application collaborating learning process use mixed or both qualitative

and quantitative

methodology. After we have complete classification of our sample

we have made an

experimental comparison between classes. To get the exact result of

Mobile Application for

Collaborative learning we have compare the class then we gets the real
result of Mobile

Application for Collaborative learning can made significant change on the

performance of

student.
