CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter concentrates on the discussion of research methods and

procedures adhered to by the researchers to systematically answer the specific

problems posed for investigation. It will introduce and show descriptions of the

study’s research design, research locale, subject of the study, sampling

technique, and data-gathering procedure used to analyze the acquired data.

Research Design

A descriptive method of research will be utilized in this study. According to

Bhat (2022), descriptive research is a research method that describes the

characteristics of the population or phenomenon studied. The descriptive

methodology focuses more on the “what” of the research rather than the “why” of

the research subject. This study only focuses on the preferred academic strand

of those grade 10 students of Matutum View Academy. The gathered data from

the respondents will be studied by the researchers to have a clear or

comprehensive understanding of what are the factors that affect the students in

picking their academic strand and what is their preferable academic strand for

senior high school.

Research Locale

The research will be conducted at Matutum View Academy which is

located in Purok 4, Barangay Acmonan, Tupi, South Cotabato.

Research Respondents

The participants of this study will be the Grade 10 students of Matutum

View Academy’s Junior High School Department. The grade 10 student

department is divided into four sections, however, all of them will answer the

questionnaires that will be distributed. The names and further information of the

student will not be published due to privacy concerns.

Sampling Procedure

All Grade 10 Students will serve as the respondents of the study.

Research Instrument

To collect all of the information that will need in this study, the researchers

will be conducting a survey to answer the specific questions in this research

study.

The questionnaire is one of the most popular data collection methods in

research. It is an instrument consisting of a series of questions and other

prompts for the purpose of gathering information from respondents. Typically, a

research questionnaire will have both closed-ended and open-ended questions.

The questionnaire has four questions that will answer by the respondents.

Data gathering Procedure

To start the study, the researcher will ask and get the permission of the

Matutum View Academy respective teachers who are in charge of the research

study, to allow them to conduct a survey with Matutum View Academy Grade 10

students on choosing their preferred academic strand. Once the permission will

be granted, the researchers will then prepare the questionnaire that the

participants will have to answer. Data will be acquired from Matutum View

Academy Grade 10 students participants and their answers will be recorded.

After all, all the data that has been gathered, the researcher will analyze the

organized data and interpret it to obtain direct and clear data.

Statistical Treatment

The researcher used the mean scores of the results of the questionnaires,

answered by the Grade 10 students, to identify the factors being researched.
