ACTIVITY: TRIGO RATIO MAZE!

Instructions:
a. I will group you into four. To determine the
group , kindly check the paper under your chair. All
blue goes together, same with pink, orange and
green.
b. Each group will have a preservative to play the
maze as a navigator.
c. The Trigonometric Ratio Maze Game is a maze
that incorporates trigonometric ratios (sine, cosine,
and tangent) to help you navigate through it. Your
objective is to find the shortest path from the starting
point (entrance) until the finish line.
What to do ? t
a. Before entering the maze , first study
the triangle's structure and mark the important
points.
b. As you progress through the maze, use
the correct trigonometric ratios to use in choosing
a path.
c. Don't be afraid to retrace your steps if
you encounter a dead-end or a path that leads to an
incorrect answer. Adjust your strategy based on
the new information and continue exploring the
maze.
d. Proceed to your group now.

today which is in Solving Problems involving Right
Triangle.

SOLVING PROBLEMS
INVOLVING RIGHT TRIANGLE

What did you do in the activity? First ma’am we need to read the
problem carefully and analyze
it.
Second is that we illustrate the
Very good! problem and draw it.

Let’s try this problem.

From a lighthouse deck 90ft. above the water, a

capsized boat is observed at an angle of depression
of 7 degrees. How far is the boat from the base of the
lighthouse?

Now that read already the problem carefully and

done analyzing it. Let’s now illustrate the problem. Okay, very good.

Who among you wants to label it?

Okay, very good!

Since in the problem the given is angle of depression
so to find for the distance of the tower and the boat
we use angle of elevation since the angle of
depression is 7° so the angle of elevation is 7° also
because the angles are vertical angles.
Given:
Tower - 90ft.
Angle of Elevation - 7°
Base on the given we use the tangent ratio.
Solution:
opp
tanθ °=
adjacent
90
tan7° =
x
90
x=
tan 7 °
x=733 meters away

So the distance between the boat and the tower is

733 meters away
Okay, so let’s try another example.

By exploring our home town Piat.

Example 1 : Cross in the Sky

Kindly read the problem.

Problem: Carlie is standing at the edge of a flat

ground near the cross in the sky, and she wants to
find the her distance to the cross in the sky. The
angle of elevation from her position to the top of the
cross in the sky is 35 degrees, and the measurement
between her and the top of the hill is 20 meters. Can
we find her distance to the cross in the sky?
How about the height?

Okay, Thankyou!
Again, what are we going to do after reading the
problem?

Given:
Angle of elevation= 35°
hypotenuse- 20 meters

Solution:

Let’s find the distance.

Let d be the distance of the cross in the sky. We can

set up the equation using the CAH function:

d Me ma’am.
cos(35°) =
20

cos(35° ) d
= ( cross multiplication) Given: θ = 35°
1 20
hypotenuse- 20 meters
d=20tan(35°)
We use the SOH function.
d=20(0.7002)
Let’s find the distance.
d=14.004
Let h be the height of the
d=14 (round off) flagpole. We can set up the
equation using the SOH
So the distance now between Rey and the cross in function:
the sky is equal to 14 meters.
h
sin(35°) =
Who wants to solve for the height? 20

sin(35 ° ) h
= ( cross
1 20
Okay Julius show us how. multiplication)

Okay, very good. h=20sin(35°)

h=20(0.5736)

Let’s have another example: h=11.47

Problem 2: Jeremeh is standing 30 meters away from h=11 (round off)

the boating area mini tower. He looks up at the tower
and notices that the angle between the ground and So the height of the cross on
his line of sight to the top of the tower is 47 degrees. the sky is 11 meters height
Determine the height of the mini tower.
( Answer )

Solution: To solve this problem,

we can use the tangent function
in trigonometry. The tangent of
an angle in a right triangle is the
ratio of the length of the side
opposite the angle to the length
of the side adjacent to the angle.
In this case, the angle is 35
degrees, the side opposite the
angle is the height of the tower
(which we want to find), and the
side adjacent to the angle is the
distance between the boy and
the tower, which is 30 meters.

Using the tangent function, we

Let’s have another example.
have:
Problem 3: Thaina is standing 50 meters away from ℎ
a bell tower of the Basilica Minore of Piat church. tan(47°) =
30
She looks up at the tower and notices that the angle
between the ground and her line of sight to the top of
h=30tan(47°)
the tower is 40 degrees. Determine the height of the
bell tower.
Using a calculator, we find that:

h=30(1.0724)
h=32.171

So, the height of the mini tower

is approximately 32 meters.

Problem 3 ( Answer )

Solution: We can use the sine

function in trigonometry to
solve this problem. The sine of
an angle in a right triangle is the
ratio of the length of the side
opposite the angle to the length
of the hypotenuse (the longest
side of the right triangle). In this
case, the angle is 40 degrees, the
side opposite the angle is the
height of the bell tower (which
we want to find), and the
hypotenuse is the distance
between the girl and the tower,
which is 50 meters.

Using the sine function, we

have:

sin(40°) =
50

h=50sin(40°)

h=50(0.6728)

h=32.14

So, the height of the bell is

approximately 32 meters.
D.
E. Application
To test if you really understand the discussion or not.
Let’s have another group activity.

Directions:
a.Go into your groups.
b.I have here 4 television , a representative in
each group will choose one television.
c.Each television will contains problems
shown in the screen as they rotate the
navigator.

Problem 1:

A building has a triangular shadow of length 30

meters on the ground when the vertical angle is
formed by the sun’s rays, the building,and the
shadow is 60 degrees. Find for the height of the
building. Answer:
Given:
Shadow-30 meters
Vertical angle - 60°

Tan60° =
30
We know that tan(60° ¿ = √ 3.
Now , we can solve for the
height (h):

√ 3= 30
h= 30 x (√ 3)
h=51.96 meters
Problem 2 :

A person is standing at the road at the edge of a

straight road and observers a car moving away from
them at an angle of 45 degrees. The car’s height is 2
meters, and the person can see top of the car.

Answer:
Given:
Shadow-30 meters
Vertical angle - 60°
2
Sin45° =
d
1
We know that tan(45 ° )=
√2
Now , we can solve for the
distance(d):
1 2
=
√2 d
d= 2 x (√ 2)
d=2.83 units
Problem 3:

A traveler is standing at a height of 5 feet on a cliff

and observers the top of the building at an angle of
elevation at 30 degrees. The traveller wants to find Answer:
the height of the building. Given:
Angle of depression -30°
Height of the traveler(h1) = 5
Height of the building(h2)
ℎ1
h2=
sin θ
Solution:
5
h2=
sin 30°
5
Problem 4: h2=
0.5
h2=10 feet
From a lighthouse deck 90ft. above the water, a
capsized boat is observed at an angle of depression
of 7 degrees. How far is the boat from the base of the
lighthouse.

Answer:
Given:
Tower - 90ft.
Angle of Elevation - 7°
90
tan7° =
x
90
x=
tan 7 °
x=733 meters away
