prose.
Prose came from the latin word “prosa oratio” that means straightforward. Meaning, when
you read newspapers, textbooks, and novels. You are reading prose. Prose is basically an
“everyday language” because it is easy to understand.
As a future English language and literature teacher, we need to have a clear understanding on
what a prose is. For us to effectively design an instruction that will ensure that the students
will develop their ability to speak and write in English correctly and fluently.
I have here two written pieces, one is a descriptive paragraph, while the other one is a poem.
these two pieces are talking about the same thing, but it is written in different genres. Let’s
compare the two and figure out where it differs.
The old car: straightforward and direct manner and expresses his/her thoughts and feelings
clearly. (uses the language in a pragmatic and practical way)
Old car: it uses a unique style and rhythm to express intent experience and it is imaginative in
nature. The purpose is to delight and amuse.
The first piece is a concrete sample of a prose while the other one is obviously a poem.
