AccuMark™ Professional Edition
What’s New 8.5.1

Changes since 8.5.0

AccuScan Camera Support

AccuScan is an addition to the AccuMark Family that

allows the use of a scanner, and now your own digital
camera to input pattern pieces.

A local Gerber sales representative can provide

information to add this software to existing AccuMark
environments. The AccuScan software can be installed
on an AccuMark system or on its own standalone
workstation.

For details on how to use your digital images for pattern

input, see the AccuScan What’s New document, located
on the AccuScan installation page.

The link to self-training is also available from this page,

the AccuScan Tutorial. To access this documentation,
select “AccuScan” from the AccuMark Family DVD
main installation page.

Once the AccuScan installation page displays, the documentation links for the
What’s New and Tutorial are accessible. If you wish to view them following the
installation of the AccuScan software, they may be accessed from the installed
software location, which is C:\Program Files (x86)\Gerber Technology\AccuScan
on 64 Bit operating systems or on 32 bit systems from
C:\Program Files\Gerber Technology\AccuScan.

AccuNest Compact
Included with Engine 1 is a new compact engine, allowing better compression of
markers to help improve utilization. Testing large groups of randomly mixed
markers saved 127.5 centimeters in length over using the nest and pack features
of Engine 1 in AccuNest 8.5.0, an average savings of 0.4 percent utilization.
Compact marker time is added to the nesting time specified.

For details, see the AccuNest What’s New document. To access the AccuNest
documentation, select the link for AccuNest on the main installation page. Once
this page is displayed, the What’s New and Release Notes for AccuNest can be
launched.
Once the software is installed these documents can be found in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Gerber Technology\AccuNest\Documents on 64 Bit
operating systems or for 32 Bit systems the documents are found in
C:\Program Files\Gerber Technology\AccuNest\Documents.

Data Conversion Utility

An improvement has been made to allow the user defined labels for layers to be
preserved for standard dxf file conversion. A checkbox has been added to the
DXF options “Save Changes” on the internal conversions tab.

This allows you to define the labels for layers you commonly use and have these
label settings preserved for future conversion sessions.

Also, a check-box “Import Annotation” has been added in Standard DXF import
options on the Piece Conversion page.

The option is checked by default to import annotation with pieces. Deselect the
checkbox to eliminate the annotation on import.

CAD Relational Database

Additional fields have been added to the relational database to provide more
marker information when creating entries in the database, including the
Annotation table name, Laylimits table name, Block/Buffer table name, Matching
table name, Model Options and Size Code table name requested in the marker
order.

Roll Up Digitizer

A new digitizer can now be configured to work with AccuMark, a portable and
flexible GTCO Calcomp Roll Up III model.

Documentation on how to enable this selection in the Hardware Configuration

and to customize the hardware settings is available with the purchase of a
digitizer kit from Gerber. This digitizer is supported using the available serial
interface cable.

Request the digitizer kit from sales or service to enable the option and configure
this optional hardware. The digitizer hardware may be purchased from any
authorized GTCO Calcomp dealer. For details and more information about this
hardware, see the GTCO Calcomp website, http://www.gtcocalcomp.com/.

Maximize Yield

A new checkbox option “Maximize Yield” has been added in AccuMark

Utilities/Configuration.

The default option is unchecked. As the order is processed, each piece’s

perimeter is slightly reduced, allowing placement of a piece that is exactly the
width of the marker. Additionally, marker length may be slightly shorter compared
to markers processed without this option.

Maximize Yield works well in a QA environment with modest tolerances.

Companies with tighter tolerances choose not to use this feature.

In the marker example below, one 100X100 piece is shown. The first image
demonstrates the length of the marker with Maximum Yield turned “on”.

Note that the marker length is 99.97 even though the piece was created as
100 X100. The piece length and width has been slightly decreased.

With the Maximize Yield setting “off” while order processing, the marker length is
slightly longer, see the second image above. No perimeter reduction is
performed. This is the default setting.

We recommend that before using this option in full production; test your own
data, particularly small pieces, to determine if this setting produces the results
you require in your environment.

Microsoft Windows 8 Operating System

With the introduction of AccuMark 8.5.1, Windows 8, Microsoft’s newest

operating system, is now supported.

Windows 8 features a Start Screen that allows users to pin tiles of frequently
used applications. Any of the individual AccuMark applications icons can be
pinned to personalize your Windows 8 Start Screen. Each user has a
customizable page.

When any software is installed on Windows 8, the user who performed the
installation will automatically have tiles for each application on his Start Screen.
Other users who work on this pc may choose to pin all or certain applications to
their own Start Screen. For example, following installation a user may choose to
pin only his most frequently used AccuMark applications to his Start Screen; the
pinned tiles can be dragged on the page to any location the user prefers. This
user has pinned AccuMark Explorer as the first tile.

Details on customizing your Start Screen to include AccuMark applications can

be found in the AccuMark 8.5.1 Release Notes.

AccuMark applications icons can also be found directly from the Windows 8
desktop, shown below. To open the Windows 8 desktop from the Start Page,
click on the “Desktop” tile.

What’s New 8.5.0

Changes since 8.4.1

New Easy Applications

Three new Easy applications have been added for AccuMark 8.5.0: Easy Plan,
Easy Order, and Easy Marking.

Easy Plan

Use this form to input all of the necessary data together to plan a cut order and
generate orders and markers.

Easy Order

Easy Order allows you to quickly create and process marker orders, and then
open in Easy Marking.

Easy Marking

Easy Marking provides enhancements for viewing markers such as the ability to
set a fabric background and customize colors.

Easy Plan

Easy Plan is a new software component for the AccuMark family that allows you
to easily create a simple Cut Plan and automatically create the AccuMark orders
and markers to fill the cut plan.

This form also provides the ability to make markers automatically by using
Layrules, or sending jobs to Batch and utilizing all the Batch options to generate
marker and reports data.

Select the Easy Plan icon from the AccuMark Utilities page of the GERBER
LaunchPad to display the Easy Plan Editor. Use this form to input all of the
necessary data together to plan a cut order and generate orders and markers.
You can also open Easy Plan by selecting a Model in AccuMark Explorer, right
clicking, then choosing “Easy Plan” from the Open With menu.

Creating a Cut Plan using Easy Plan

Easy Plan is set up in steps to help you easily proceed through the necessary
fields to create a cut plan. Prior to entering cut information, configure the Easy
Plan to suit your needs:

Settings:
In the Settings area, specify a prefix that will be used when creating markers.
The prefix will be the first part of the marker name. Each marker created will be
numbered sequentially when “Calculate Markers” is performed. For example, if
you enter “123-“ as the prefix, the markers created during the cut plan will be
named 123-0, 123-1, 123-2, 123-3 and so on. Only valid characters such as
letters, numbers, spaces and dashes are accepted.

 Max Ply allows you to enter maximum number of fabric plies you will allow
per cut section. The valid range is 1-200.
 Max Bundle is the maximum number of bundles you wish to have per
marker. The valid range is 1-1000.
 Even # per model is used when requesting markers utilizing Half Piece
Sharing or Cutdown Pieces. A minimum of two bundles per marker will
then be calculated.
 Effort is a modifier that controls the complexity of cut planning. Slide this
bar to increase/decrease the complexity of cut planning. The default value
is 12. The valid range goes from 0 – 100. Increasing the effort will
increase the number of possible solutions checked. While it will take a
correspondingly longer time to process, it will also increase the chances of
better solution.

Order Settings:
Under Order Settings, click the look up button to select the corresponding
Template Order that AccuMark will use to generate orders and markers. The
Template Order contains the Fabric Width, Annotation table, Lay Limits and
Notch table being used in the orders. This order should be saved in the same
storage area as the model(s) selected for Easy Plan. The model, size and
quantity fields must be left blank; Easy Plan will fill this information in based on
your cut orders. In the Order Settings you may also enter the fabric type for the
cut order being planned.

 Process/View Markers - Generate markers from Cut Plan Results. If the
order processing task is successful, it will automatically launch in Easy
Marking, opening the first marker. Use Open Next/Open Previous while in
Easy Marking to open other markers.
 Send to Batch - Submit orders and/or markers to Batch Processing.

You may perform the following functions from the File menu:
 Save As - The Cut Plan Order can be saved at any time. The type
of file is CSV (Comma Separated Value). Cut orders can be saved
in any device/folder. Cut Plan csv files can be opened in Excel, or
other compatible program, edited and reopened in Easy Plan.
 Print/Print Preview - Your cut orders, whether they have been
planned or not, can be printed. Once a cut order has been planned,
the print can be used as a cut order report, since it will include all
cut plan results.

From the Options menu, the default editor for opening Orders and Markers can
be set to the new Easy applications: Easy Order and Easy Marking or the Order

Easy Marking

A new interface for marker making has been added to the GERBER Launchpad.

Easy Marking provides enhancements for viewing markers such as the ability to
set a fabric background and customize colors.

Easy Marking is used when opening a marker from other applications, such as
Batch Processing and AccuNest.

Note: The new abilities of setting fabric background, customizing colors, and
setting the workspace layout are available once a marker is opened.

New View Options
Selections under the View menu allow you to customize the colors of your
marking work space. Piece fill colors can be set, the screen colors selected and
fabric backgrounds can be applied.

Select “Screen Options and Colors” from the View Menu to customize your Easy
Marking work environment.

 Icon Size – sets the size of the icons used in the program. Select from the
drop down menu: Small, Medium, or Large.
 Anti Alias Lines – checkbox to change the display of piece lines. This is
on by default, but can be deselected to change the line appearance. The
setting does not impact the plotted lines, only the marker making display
of line edges.
Anti Alias is a way of smoothing the jagged appearance of diagonal and
curved lines in an image. The pixels that surround the edges of the line
are changed to varying shades of color in order to blend the sharp edge
into the background.

On high resolution, newer monitors this enhances the appearance of line
display. However, on older monitors this may create a blurry or distracting
effect so this checkbox can be turned off.
 Background – choose a Solid or Gradient background. For Solid
backgrounds, only Color 1 is used. Click on the ‘Background Color 1’
button to change the color. For Gradient backgrounds, both Background
colors are used.
 Color Theme – controls the set of colors used for placed pieces in the
marker. Choose from: Earth, Sea, Forest, Pink or Classic Colors.
 Matrix Menu Color – sets the background color for the matrix menu.
Click the button to select a new color.
 Marker Border Color – sets the color for the marker border.
 Piece Line Color – sets the color for the perimeter line of the pieces.
 Fill Unplaced Pieces – uncheck this option to remove the color fill from
unplaced pieces.
 Unplaced Piece Color – sets the color for unplaced pieces.

Once you have made all the changes to customize your marking work
environment, click OK to accept the changes and close the Screen Colors dialog.
The screen below shows pieces displayed with the classic color theme.

Background Fabric
If you would like to work with a fabric background, select the option “Set
Background Fabric” from the View Menu. You will be prompted to specify the
scanned fabric image file and set the height and width of the fabric/repeat. Once
you have done this, the fabric will appear as the marker background. The screen
below shows pieces with a fabric background and the Earth theme selected.

User-Defined Hot Keys
You can also assign functions to keys on the keyboard with “Assign Keys” from
the Edit menu.

The dialog opens to allow you to customize keys for your commonly used
functions. Select a menu from the “Category” drop down to filter the Commands
listed. The Category “All” displays all functions, not just functions within one
menu. Hot keys can also be assigned to activate Toolbox functions that had been
pre assigned by the marking software in prior versions, allowing the user more
flexibility of use.

By customizing keys, you can perform most common functions using the
keyboard in place of the mouse and screen menus.

For example, to select a menu option from the File menu, choose “File” as the
category, then the commands will display those options available under this
menu. Press the keys to assign as the shortcut key, and then click “Assign” In
this example, Open has been set for Ctrl+O.

Remove will clear the assigned key and Reset All will remove all the user
assigned keys. Click Close to exit the dialog box.

In prior versions of Marker making certain functions from the toolbox were pre
assigned to keys on the keyboard: Flip, place, split, center, fit, and float piece.

These toolbox functions can now be assigned to user specified keyboard keys.
To assign these keys, select the category “Keyboard” from the dropdown. Scroll
to select a command for key assignment.

A user can also assign hotkeys to activate different toolbox functions. The key
would change the active Toolbox function to the assigned function. You can then
perform the active funtion with a right mouse click.

For example if a user defines a key for AutoSlide, clicking the defined key would
change the active toolbox function to AutoSlide. Then just use the right mouse to
perform the function.

A new entry has been added to the Edit menu to customize the toolbar:

When the entry is selected, a dialog box displays allowing the user to select
buttons for the toolbar display.

A new field “PR” has been added to the Easy Marking marker information bar.
When the cursor is placed on a pattern piece in the marker, this field displays the
distance from the left end of the marker to the right-most point on the pattern
piece. This option makes it easy for the marker maker to see which piece is
making the marker longer without guessing. This option is also helpful for
making sure pieces are lined up in a marker.

Digitize Processing Options

Improvements have been made to streamline and simplify the digitizing process.

Piece descriptive information that previously had to be entered using the

digitizing cursor and menu can now be quickly entered in a new dialog box,
Digitize Processing Options.

To further simplify the digitizing

process, when entering the
piece descriptive information,
the pieces can also be
automatically added to a
model. If the model does not
exist, it will be created
automatically.

The Digitize Processing

Options can be opened by
right clicking over the Digitizer
storage area in AccuMark
Explorer or from the Action
menu once the Digitizer has
been opened from the System
Tray.

Storage Area
Select the target Device and
Storage Area name. SQL
device/storage areas can also
be selected.

Piece Name Prefix and

Starting Piece Number
The Digitize Processing
Options dialog will keep track
of your digitized piece names
by using the Prefix name
defined by the user followed by
the Starting Piece Number.

Using this method, you can

enter a name, then starting
piece number, and each piece
digitized will be automatically
assigned this prefix and the
sequential number.

For example, you can enter “LADIES” as the prefix, the starting piece number “1”
The first piece digitized will automatically be named “LADIES1” the next piece
will be “LADIES2” and so on.

When you begin digitizing the piece geometry, all the descriptive information has
been added by the interface, so begin by digitizing the grain line of the piece and
piece perimeter then internals as in the past.

To change to a new prefix and/or starting piece number, simply edit the fields.

Category
You may enter a category for each piece or allow the piece name to be assigned
as the category automatically.

Same Category as Piece Name

Selecting this checkbox will automatically assign the piece name as the category
to streamline the piece information entry. Remember that this information can
also be edited easily later in the Model.

Add to Model name (optional)

If a model is selected, the digitized pieces will be added automatically to the
selected Model. If the model doesn’t exist, it will be created.

Table is selected. Use the lookup to select a Piece if the grading method is Copy
Piece.

Size Digitized
If a size other than the base size from the Rule Table is being digitized, then
enter that size name here. If this is left blank while using Rule Table as the
grading method, the system will assume the size being digitized is the base size
from the specified Rule Table.

Plotting Model Options

Model Options can now be plotted when selecting models for piece plotting. You
can plot all the model options for a model, or choose to plot only certain options.

If the data type Model is

selected from the drop down in
the data type field or it you
select a model from AccuMark
Explorer to plot, then an
additional column will display,
allowing you to plot Model
Options.

Fabric Weight
Additional costing information can now be calculated and displayed in AutoMark
Reports. A new field, “Fabric Weight” now appears to allow you to enter a weight
for “Cost Calculation Results” The weight calculation results will include marker,
bundle and waste information. Tubular and knit goods cost are often based on
weight, so this new field provides additional valuable costing information.

Fabric weight related changes have been implemented in PDS Costing Marker,
CostMarker Console and PDS Wizard.

Fabric Weight Calculations:
Fabric weight is calculated in grams per square meter (GSM) or ounces per
square yard (OSY). The units used in these calculations are based on the
current Notation setting in the User Environment table.

Four values are calculated when a Fabric Weight is entered:

 Gross Marker Weight – total weight of a single ply of the marker. The
formula used is = length * width * weight.
 Average Gross Weight / Bundle – average weight of a single bundle
including waste. The formula used is = length * width * weight / # of
bundles
 Average Net Weight / Bundle – average weight of a single bundle. The
formula used is = sum of all piece areas * weight / # of bundles
 Waste – total weight of waste fabric. The formula used is = Gross Marker
Weight – (sum of all piece areas * weight).

Batch Processing Improvements

Users can now
open the AutoMark
Options directly
from the Batch
Parameter Table
when “Auto” is
selected for the
marking method.
Simply click the
“AutoMark Options”
button to open
AutoMark, allowing
you to change
certain information.

When the AutoMark Editor is launched from within Batch Processing to select the
AutoMark options to use with Batch, only fields that can set for processing Batch
jobs are active and can be changed: Placement Strategy, Piece Options, If
Partial Marker, Effort, Fabric Cost, and Fabric Weight. The Replace if Better and
Overwrite Destination Marker are selected by default to allow batch processing to
run without unnecessary prompts and user actions.

To provide more information for Batch status, a new column has been added to
the Batch Processing Status Window. This “Group” field will display the group
letter when plotting jobs that were sent in a group.
Each job in a group will show COMPLETED, except the last which will show
GROUP COMPLETED status when finished.

Darts
Easier selection of New Dart Apex points
Selecting a new dart apex has been enhanced to work like the Change Dart Tip
function. After using Add Dart with Fullness, Rotate Dart, Distribute/Rotate, or
Combine Different Line; cursor mode is automatically activated. With the new
dart attached to the cursor, Value Mode can be activated to edit the dart
measurements. The Distance field (Dist) can be used to enter the length of the
new dart, while X and Y can be used to adjust the position of the dart tip in
space. Keep in mind, changing the X and Y values will change the angle of the
dart.

New Darts can be pivoted from internal points
New options have been added to the Add Dart with Fullness function to use 3-
Point Slash Lines and pivot from an internal location.
There are now 2 options for Slash Line in the User Input box – 2-Point and 3-
Point. The 2-Point option gives functionality similar to previous versions.
Selecting 3-Point will prompt for the dart apex location after the open point is
selected.

Selecting the 3-Point option for the Slash Line will activate the two Pivot Point
options in the User Input box. Slash Point will use the selected slash point as the
pivoting location for the new dart, as in previous versions. Apex Point will use
the internal apex point of the new dart as the pivoting location.

Wizard Enhancements
 File / Open and placing pieces in the work area are now enabled for
Wizard scripts. These steps can be recorded in scripts and used in script
playback.
 Graded values from Measure Charts can now be used in script recording.
Use it for:
o Adding different amounts of fullness on different sizes
o Changing the position of a line or pleat on different sizes
In previous releases, only the amount from the base size column was
used in recording and playback. Now, the amount defined in the Measure
Chart is applied to each size individually. Modified grade rules are added
to the piece to maintain the new graded shapes.

NOTE: The display when recording will only show the base size amount applied
to the piece. When the script is played back, the correct amounts from the
Measure Chart will be applied.
