Authority (HEA) is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to fill the vacant position stated below. RU

Librarian (x1)
Location: Monze Campus
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum of Master's Degree in Library and Information Science.
 PhD is an added advantage.
 Full Form v (5)/Grade 12 Certificate.
 Member of Library Association of Zambia.
 At least five (5) years’ work experience, two (2) of which should be at management level.

Expectations:
To ensure acquisition and circulation of reading resources in a systematic manner and that the library should be kept
clean all the time so as to provide a serene atmosphere for reading and research.

Responsibilities:
1. Periodically formulate and update library management policies and procedures for the University and make
recommendations to administration for adoption.
2. Coordination of the entire library functions.
3. Preparation of the proposed yearly budget for the library.
4. Preparation of library requisitions for smooth running of daily business.
5. Setting objectives for the library.
6. Supervision of library personnel including preparation of Time table for shift hours.
7. Cataloguing and Classification of books.
8. Evaluating the value of books in the library.
9. Training the Library personnel on library practices.
10. Acquisition of both the prescribed and recommended books for the library.
11. Managing electronic resources and ensuring that there is access to patrons at all times.
12. Orientation of both Lecturers and students on how to access electronic resources from the university website.
13. Ensuring that subscription to these resources is paid on time to avoid disruption from the providers.
14. Conducting Library practice demonstration for students taking Research Skills as well as those in Postgraduate studies.
15. Any other duties as assigned by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


1. A strong knowledge of the subject area combined with a broad subject background enabling contributions to
management of the library.
2. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
3. Computer skills in word, excel and power point.
4. Good Customer Relations.
5. Ability to manage time and work with strict deadlines.
6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
7. Multi-task and prioritize tasks.
8. Maintain library of periodicals.
9. Team player
